The listener is the learner. Pete Rock and Common’s stellar The Auditorium Vol. 1 just turned 2. When @thecoolxkids went from related obscurity to inside our living rooms (literally) the culture experienced a shift. The duo helped to usher in new sounds, new looks, along with a new distribution system known as “blogs.”The Cool Kids also inspired countless younger emcees and producers that have carried the torch and achieved their own large amounts of acclaim and success.On June 25th we paid homage to The Cool Kids with Legend Conversation number 17. Dinner was provided hy @jerkyardchicago. Drinks came courtesy of @deleontequila, @redbull, @fevertree_usa and a custom cold brew from @darkmattercoffee. @mrbeasy & @jugrnaut designed another ill collectible tee and @anthem_usa supplied the 💨💨💨. “I burnt out. I didn’t have no gas left in the tank, “ Rapper Big Pooh told us during our Legend Conversation with Little Brother. The conversation came ahead of their final Chicago tour date on their final tour as Little Brother. “I made the decision,” he continued, “I gotta do things differently. I took time away to really figure out how I wanted to be present in the music industry, how much of myself I wanted to give going forward. And it changed.”That time of reflection comes for many of us that work in the music business. Young and hungry and doing everything you can, eventually changes to doing what you want, and for some, not doing anything at all. Throughout Legend Conversation number 14, Phonte and Pooh spoke about the peace they both have in saying goodbye to Little Brother on THEIR own terms. They have reconciled their differences, they reunited for new music, and they properly stepped away while giving fans a chance for closure. And sadly, they confirmed there is no more Little Brother tracks sitting in the vault haha. We tried. We tried. Legend Conversation number 17 hits June 25th with some Chicago Legends.
