I feel it is important to say some words about my friend Jon Teller. He was a truly great trial lawyer who I respected and asked for advice and he never hesitated to help with sharing his transcripts or talking about trial strategy. He had a great mind and voice that worked magic to help jurors to see the truth. But what I will remember most about Jon other than being a brilliant guy who loved trying cases and getting justice for his clients is that he was an even better person. I can say that with confidence even though I only knew a fraction of his good deeds and will always wish I had gotten to spend more time with him to know more. Seeing his loving wife and brothers speak at his memorial about what an amazing man he was could not have been more beautiful and gut wrenching. I would like to think that Jon would be happy to know that some positive things have come from his passing too soon, even though it’s hard to understand that now, and I believe if the tables were turned I would want that. So I intend to be a better husband, father, son and brother like Jon Teller. I think he would like that for us all while also wanting me and other trial lawyers to continue fighting the good fight for clients who need our help. One thing I will always remember is speaking to him about some disappointing decisions by judges in my cases and how he had this incredibly positive outlook on life. He told me we are living the dream. Amazing family, amazing friends, and we get to do what we love. It wasn’t about the wins or losses or money or fame—it was about the journey and appreciating how lucky we were to have what many people could only dream of. His gratitude for life will stay with me forever and remind me what really matters. Rest in peace my friend. May your memory be a blessing. by @daverudorfer

Last night I had the honor to speak at the graduation for the CAALA Plaintiff Trial Academy along side the presiding Judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court, the Honorable Samantha Jessner, and the man who put it all together, Mike Arias. Judge Jessner had some great advice on trying cases from a judge's perspective and I covered it from a lawyer's perspective. Mike drove it home with the importance of trial lawyers also striving for life balance with family and health. I would like to congratulate all the graduates and wish them the best of luck with their careers as trial lawyers. by @daverudorfer

Team PSBR congratulates David Rudorfer on his selection as 2023 Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles. Each year, this honor is awarded to just one member after considering the significance of the lawyer’s trial results, standing and reputation in the community, and contributions to the legal profession and organization.

David is recognized by CAALA for his extraordinary work as a trial lawyer, including in two recent Los Angeles County Superior Court cases. In August 2022, David obtained a $26,000,000 jury verdict in Jane Doe v. Pasadena Unified School District for a former Pasadena Unified School District special education student who was sexually assaulted at school by three of her classmates. David also obtained a $13,150,000 jury verdict in May 2023 for three family members who were rear-ended by a tractor trailer in Hernandez v. Geriq Logistics, LLC.

“David’s recognition by the Board is a tremendous accomplishment and a tribute to his hard work and dedication to his clients,” said Brian Panish.

My jury came back today with a $13,150,000 verdict in Van Nuys. We started time qualifying jurors on 4/19 and I picked the jury on 4/24 and then opened on 4/26 and after putting up around 20 witnesses and crossing around 6 defense witnesses I closed yesterday on 5/9. Big rig rear end collision with disputed forces of impact and highly disputed injuries. So proud of my clients … they deserve every penny of what the jury decided which was about 10.5M for Delia and 1.5M for Vincent and 1M for Francisco. Very proud of my cocounsel Wyatt Vespermann who did an amazing job handling a few of the witnesses and doing so much of the trial work so I could focus on what I needed to do. Couldn’t have done it without him and my good friend and referral counsel Jon Howell who handled the case brilliantly for years before I ever touched it. Very proud of my jury for hanging in there for weeks and paying such good attention and never failing to show… we didn’t use a single alternate. Judge Freixes was tough on me at times but I’m also proud of her. Also so proud of my wife and kids for supporting me while I was just 35 minutes away from home but living in a hotel. Also so proud of my firm PSBR and my whole team esp Cam, Cat and Olivia who helped me so much and handled things while I was away doing this trial. One of the things I love about trials is that they are like some form of incredible ancient battle to the finish. The defense told the jury to award about 230K which would have been a ridiculous and tragic miscarriage of justice. There was a lot on the line and it was an intense fight. So proud we were able to help the jury to see the truth and reach a just verdict. So proud of never giving up and fighting the good fight. I didn’t use my hub ding on Van Nuys I didn’t use all my juror strikes, just one. Van Nuys court needs more food options but it’s getting better for plaintiffs all the time. So proud of this verdict and what we did for this family who are great people. So proud! by @daverudorfer
