The store you sell through can end up setting your price at every other store. Amanda Shendruk traces how that happens at Amazon in her newsletter, Not-Ship.

The FTC says many sellers pay Amazon close to half of their total revenue, counting fulfillment and advertising. The referral fee is a percentage, so when a seller raises a price to cover fees, Amazon keeps 15 cents of every added dollar. And under Amazon's Fair Pricing Policy, a lower price somewhere else can cost a seller the Buy Box. Shendruk argues sellers raise their prices off Amazon too. The FTC and 17 states are suing; Amazon denies the charges.

My read: any channel that can punish you for a lower price elsewhere is setting your price everywhere. Ask whether you could lose it and still make payroll, and keep growing the sales that come to you directly.

An AI model made up a murder tip and submitted it to police during a test. Its maker found out 72 days later.

According to sources who spoke to the newspaper Aftonbladet, a production company in Sweden let an AI agent into its server, and the agent deleted the finished edit of an entire TV season. The premiere was five weeks away.

The show is the Swedish version of The Challenge, made by Mastiff for TV4. TV4 says it was told of a technical breakdown, that edited material went missing, and that the season has to be edited again. The premiere has moved into 2027.

An edit holds every call an editor made: which take to use, where each cut falls, what order the episodes run in. Cutting the season again means making every one of those calls a second time.

That's the point where losing work costs the most: every hour is in, and nothing has reached a customer. A proposal the night before it goes out sits there too. Keep a copy on a drive or an account nobody working on the job can log into, and pull one file back out of it before the deadline, while a missing copy is still cheap to make.

If a customer says yes right away and smiling, you're charging too little.

Raise the price until they flinch. They pause, they grumble, and they pay you anyway.

On Sunday night, someone remotely switched the refrigerators in hundreds of French supermarkets into defrost. By Monday the stores were throwing out their fresh and frozen food. The retailers told AFP the count was at least 300 Intermarché and Netto stores, more than 100 Coopérative U stores, and several E. Leclerc stores, and Paris prosecutors say the attack also started fires.

A source told AFP the attackers went after controllers made by Danfoss. Danfoss says most of the equipment hit no longer gets software or security updates, and that it had told supermarkets for a long time to upgrade. On the shop floor, the cases were still cold every morning.

Make a list of what your business runs that its maker has stopped fixing, then mark the ones someone outside the building can reach. Each one on that list needs a replacement date and a person's name next to it.

Skip the new channel for a minute. Open the list of your last ten customers and ask what they had in common and why they said yes. That's the map to your next hundred sales.

Since October 1, any business that bills New Yorkers on repeat has to make canceling as easy as signing up. The city's own page says it in one line: if you can sign up with a click, you must be able to cancel with one.

If someone joined online, a business can't make them call or come in to quit. It can't hide the instructions or put unreasonable conditions on leaving, and front-desk signups now get an online way out too. Fines start at $525 and reach $3,500 by a third violation, and the city can order refunds of every charge made after the customer first tried to cancel. (Sources: NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, Skadden.)

You can hold any business to that standard, New York or not. Count the steps it takes to become your customer, then the steps it takes to stop being one. Where the second number is bigger, some of the customers you count as retained are only there because the way out was hard to find.

When someone does leave, let them go in one step and ask when they last got the result they signed up for. Too expensive is usually the polite version of a result that quietly stopped showing up.

Sometimes you find out an investor is a toxic boat anchor and you want to give the money back. A note lets you do that. That is the rare case where the debt is the point.

Three founders, no website, no inventory. Fleek talked a London wholesaler into lending them one box of clothes for six hours: every piece comes back, or the wholesaler gets paid. They sold it by hand to secondhand shops for about $6,000 per trip. Around month four the trips stopped teaching them anything new, and buyers and sellers moved onto the Fleek marketplace.

According to The Verge, Intel and AMD are both making new processors that run on DDR4, computer memory first sold in 2014.

DDR5, the memory that replaced it, has gotten expensive. A 32GB Corsair kit was $620 on Amazon in DDR5 and $260 in DDR4. On Friday, Gigabyte said new Intel processors for the older LGA1700 socket are expected in early 2027, and that two whole lines of its boards for that socket will run them, the DDR4 models included. The upgrade is a BIOS download and a new chip dropped into the same board. AMD relaunched a chip for its older DDR4 platform, with new Gigabyte boards to match. (Sources: The Verge and Gigabyte.)

So the processor's price is only one line of what a buyer adds up, and this year the memory line is the one that went up. Your customers run that sum on whatever you sell. When one of the other lines climbs, your offer gets more expensive for them, and whatever fits what they already own starts to look cheap.

The question I ask about my own business is which of the things my customers buy alongside me is climbing this year, and whether I have a version that lets them keep what they've got.

Simplicity isn't harmlessness. A five-page SAFE can still transfer a meaningful percentage of your company. Know what you're giving up before you sign.

Evenly spaced runs of numbers: 7, 11, 15, 19. Erdős problem 3 asks how many numbers you can pick before a run like that has to appear. OpenAI's AI-written paper claims one limit. Its Lean file checks a looser one. Thomas Bloom, who runs the Erdős Problems website, noticed.

The paper may still be correct. If a lab says a computer checked something, ask exactly what it checked.
