Mardi Gras gig prep. This is the kinda tune where someone says “it’s two chords!” and somehow you’re never playing the right one 😵‍💫

Come hear this and bunch of other groovy New Orleans music at @barlunatico on Tuesday. Tubby plays two sets, 9pm and 10:30pm by @davesperanza

Life/career update:

Drea and I welcomed our baby boy Silvio (🤌🏻) to the world 8 weeks ago! It has truly been the challenge and delight of a lifetime, and we are grateful that baby and mama are healthy and thriving. We appreciate all the well wishes.

Due to the all-consuming nature of parenting without family nearby, that’s meant a shift for my work life. After 3 years on the road with Railroad Earth, I got off the bus in October. It’s been an honor to be a part of the story of such a legendary outfit (25 years!) and I’ll miss the band, the crew, the fans, and the road, but it’s time to be home a little bit more, at least until I can get the hang of dad life.

I’ve been out of town quite a bit since the pandemic, so I’m looking forward to getting back into the local scene in NYC and playing with friends old and new. Please reach out if you need bass for gigs, recordings, or just making music in a living room (preferably mine for the time being!)

Enjoy this Rodgers & Hart ode to staying home in the greatest city in the world. It’s very swell, too, down on Cortelyou Road you know… taken in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn by @davesperanza

The germ of this children’s song (🧐) came to me on Day 9 of a @vipassanaorg meditation retreat

Vipassana is a 2500-year-old technique of noticing the sensations in your body that accompany mental and emotional states, and then learning to feel equanimous towards them.

No talking, no phones, no books, no music, and no writing! Kinda cheated and worked some of this out in my head during my approximately 87th hour of meditation that week.

To be followed up by the as-yet unwritten B-side “Staring At The Inside Of My Mind”

Congrats to Mike Barnett on releasing his new swing record! This is some music that was mostly recorded in 2016, with a wonderful group of musicians - Eddie Barbash, Roy Williams, Phoebe Hunt, Dom Leslie, Alex Hargreaves, and myself. We were all playing a lot together back then…what a time it was in Brooklyn in those days. Hope you’ll take a listen by @davesperanza

Classic recipes, well-executed and using the finest ingredients, is my MO — whether it’s a pasta sauce, a cocktail, or bass tone.

Here we’ve got La Bella flats on a vintage P bass into an Ampeg B15. Some things can’t be improved upon by @davesperanza
