Hellqvist & Curated by David Hellqvist Private View Saturday Oct 10, 2pm-5pm   Swe: För några år sedan hittade jag digitaliserade bilder som min bortgångne far hade tagit för länge sen. Just dom här bilderna var inte av familjen utan fick mig att minnas pappas förkärlek för att dokumentera den omgivande naturen. Många av bilderna är tagna vid Blomberg, en idyllisk badplats nära Lidköping där vi bodde. På andra sidan viken ligger Läckö slott, där vi också var ofta, både på vintern och sommaren. Jag uppskattar såklart bilderna för deras sentimentala värde, men jag drar också paralleller till mitt eget kreativa arbete och ser ett estetiskt samband mellan pappas färgpalett och hur han komponerade sina bilder, och mitt sätt att se och dokumentera omvärlden. På så sätt blir utställningen ett postumt och visuellt kärleksbrev från mig till pappa, en hyllning till honom 15 år efter hans bortgång, men också en möjlighet att identifiera den stilistiska röda tråden som löper genom bådas vårat arbete.   Eng: A few years ago, I found some digitised images that my late father had taken years ago. These particular photos did not feature my family; instead, they evoked memories of my father’s fondness for documenting the surrounding natural landscape. Many of the images were taken at Blomberg, an idyllic swimming spot near Lidköping, where we lived. Across the bay lies Läckö Castle, another favourite destination. While I naturally value these photos for their sentimental significance, I can also draw parallels to my own creative work, recognising an aesthetic connection between my father’s colour palette and composition and my way of viewing and documenting the world around me. The People of Workwear Though many of the creatives profiled in ’Blue-Collar Modernism’ are designers, or otherwise associated with a clothing brand, not all of them feature in the book for that reason. Some have helped define a contemporary take on workwear through their own line of work, or by developing a unique personal style that aligns with the ethos of workwear, while also borrowing from the structured concept of a uniform - be it for a chef or a painter. Somewhere in that juxtaposition of durable work clothes and aesthetic functionality lies the secret to the modernity of 21st century workwear. Last night we had @david_hellqvist down at Goodhood for the signing of his new book, Blue-Collar Modernism: The Visual Culture of Workwear.   An evening spent talking all things workwear, where it came from, where it’s ended up and why clothing originally made for the job continues to find its way into what we wear every day.   David was on hand signing copies, chatting with everyone who came through and getting into the stories behind the book, published by @gestalten.   Drinks came courtesy of @commune_goodhood, keeping everyone well looked after.   A massive thank you to David for joining us, and to everyone who came down and spent the evening with us.
