The easiest thing you can do in boxing is throw punches. The real challenge is knowing how to defend them

Today, we switched things up a bit and focused on defense rather than just throwing punches. We worked on using our gloves and body to block, catch, and deflect incoming punches, along with head movement and countering.

I’m very proud of everyone who showed up, stepped outside their comfort zone, and embraced something different. Boxing is about so much more than throwing punches, and learning how to defend yourself is just as important as learning how to attack.

Throwback Thursday 🥊

Back to when I was preparing to go to war in front of all my friends and family.

Every fight night was more than just a fight. There wasn’t an empty seat in the building you just had to be there. The energy, the love, the noise… Sacramento showed up for me in a way I’ll never forget. I’m forever grateful 🥊🔥

14 years ago, my life was no longer about me. You showed up and instantly became the best thing that ever happened to me.

We’ve officially reached the stage where I can no longer call you “Little D.” From now on, you’re just “David.” And apparently, I’ve been promoted to “Big David” because I don’t care how big you get, I’ll NEVER be “Little David.” Let’s just go ahead and make that clear 🤣

Happy Birthday Pops, This day is all about you. Watching you grow into the young man you’re becoming has been the greatest blessing of my life.

When I was 17, we put on a boxing clinic at a local middle school here in Rocklin, hoping to get some of the students interested in boxing.

I don’t think we got a single student to sign up. 😂🥊

But we did get @angiealva28

She was the PE teacher for all those students, and she decided to give boxing a shot. She’s been with us ever since.

Think about that… Mama has been a member for more than half of my life. 😳

I was just 17 years old when we stopped by that school, I was still a kid myself.

Sometimes you have no idea where one boxing clinic, one class, or one person is going to lead you. I’m just grateful Mama decided to stick around for the journey 🥊 by @david_melgoza_916

Thursdays have become Paula’s favorite day of the week. It’s the day we put the gloves on and she gets to put everything we’ve been working on into action. 🥊

One of my favorite things is watching her face light up when she lands a punch. You can see the excitement, the confidence, and the pride in those moments and honestly, it makes me just as happy as it makes her.

Every day, Paula faces the challenges that come with ALS yet somehow she continues to walk through our doors with a smile, incredible energy, and a spirit that is impossible not to admire.

She reminds me that fighting isn’t always about what happens inside the ring. Sometimes it’s simply about showing up, giving your best, and refusing to let your circumstances take away your joy.

Paula, thank you for being exactly who you are. Your energy, your smile, and your determination make this gym a better place. We’re all lucky to have you. 🥊😠

GGG vs. Crawford 🥊

Yesterday I posted this matchup as a poll, and it’s been a very close debate. Comment below who you think wins and, more importantly, explain why.

I’m a huge Crawford fan, but I’m going with GGG in this one.

Prime GGG was one of the most feared fighters in the world. He had incredible power, an educated jab, could switch stances, and was extremely difficult to hurt. His ability to apply pressure, cut off the ring, and constantly put you in uncomfortable positions would make this a very difficult fight for any boxer.

Crawford’s skill, IQ, timing, and ability to make adjustments would give GGG plenty of problems, but I think Golovkin’s size, pressure, physical strength, and power eventually become too much.

Call me crazy, but I’ve got GGG by late-round stoppage.

Now let’s hear it… who you got and why? 🥊
