Welcome to my solo exhibition in the US 🇺🇸 from July 18th to August 29th.

Thanks to the entire team at @rampantgallery for their trust in this body of work and for making this exhibition possible. I am also deeply grateful to my dear friend @marioone__ and my girlfriend whose unwavering support and belief in my artistic journey have been invaluable throughout this process.

POORTREAT explores the shifting nature of identity through the language of portraiture. Inspired by the historical role of portraiture as a vehicle for preserving status, memory, and legacy, these works deliberately dismantle that tradition through fragmentation, layering, and reconstruction. In doing so, they question what remains of identity in an era defined by visual saturation, constant image consumption, and the instability of representation.

To everyone who visited, shared a conversation, or continues to support my practice—thank you. Your encouragement allows this journey to keep evolving.

Estamos muy felices de anunciar que David Rojas inicia una colaboración con LUMBRE Gallery.

Su trabajo explora la pintura desde un lenguaje contemporáneo, donde la figuración, la abstracción y el color dialogan para construir imágenes de gran fuerza visual y emocional.

Nos ilusiona acompañarle en esta nueva etapa y comenzar juntos un recorrido que compartiremos muy pronto.

Speed takes different forms.
For Porsche, it’s motion and precision. For us, it’s how fast we consume images. This piece brings those speeds together, Porsche magazines cut, fragmented, layered, and rebuilt, paint and texture slowing down what we normally scroll past.

FACELEASE ✷

What remains of a face when it stops belonging to the one who wears it and starts circulating as an image?

“Facelease” plays on “face” and “lease”: the face as something on loan, granted for a limited time under terms nobody reads. It also echoes *release*, the image that is let go and is no longer in our hands.

Of the portrait, only the peripheral survives: the hair, the ear, the edge of a sweater. The center, the place tradition reserved for gaze and character, has been replaced by an accumulation of color planes that overlap like cut paper. The face stops being a presence and becomes a surface: a construction made of remnants, where paint imitates collage and collage interrupts paint. Fragments of typography enter from the margins, cropped, like the echo of a message whose origin has been lost.

The Baroque portrait aspired to fix identity in time, to turn the image into a monument. This piece proposes the opposite: a face that refuses to be fixed, that resists closing and forces the viewer to reconstruct it.

“Facelease”belongs to my series POORTREAT, a semantic play on “portrait” and “poor treat”, on the fine line between representation and the mistreatment of the contemporary image. POORTREAT doesn’t portray individuals. It portrays the current condition of the image itself.

What holds an identity together when there is no longer a face to contain it?

If the Baroque portrait aspired to fix identity in time through the idealized representation of the subject, POORTREAT proposes the opposite: fragmented, unstable identities eroded by visual saturation.

These “portraits” are not constructed from unity, but from a collage of remnants: fragments of found, appropriated, cut-out, and superimposed images. Incomplete faces, displaced gazes, interrupted gestures.

Inspired by the concept of photo-trouvé, David Rojas creates scenes that do not seek to reproduce reality, but rather to fragment and recompose it, endowing each work with an autonomous meaning. His work can be seen as a critical reflection on the visual saturation that characterizes the contemporary era.

💥 La galería madrileña @lumbregallery participará en POSITIONS Berlin 2026 con una duo show de @geroaraquistain y @david_rojas_art, del 10 al 13 de septiembre en el antiguo aeropuerto de Tempelhof, durante Berlin Art Week @berlinartweek ⚡️🟢

👉 La propuesta pone en diálogo dos prácticas que parten de lenguajes diferentes pero comparten procedimientos de fragmentación, acumulación y transformación de la imagen contemporánea.

✨ Gerónimo Araquistain trabaja entre pintura, objeto y escultura a partir de tejido de peluche recuperado, reorganizando símbolos vinculados con la cultura popular, las barajas y el universo digital.

✨ David Rojas combina pintura, dibujo, collage y serigrafía para explorar la saturación visual y la inestabilidad de las imágenes.

THE ARTIST VS THE ART 🖼️

Meet @david_rojas_art through his solo exhibition, POORTREAT, currently open at @rampantgallery at @thegoatfarm in Atlanta!

His artwork provides a commentary on the constant flood of information and advertising we are exposed to while scrolling through social media, where the individual has become replaced by “content”. As a critical review of the Baroque portrait, Rojas’ artwork does not idealize his subjects but depicts them as fragmented and incomplete, symbolizing a loss of individual identity.
