The pine trees in Forest Park have stuffed animals in them. Lol

I was fortunate to be able to see the pair of branching Great Horned Owls before they fledged just a few days later on a tip from a fellow photographer.

Swamp sparrow singing away in the cattails along the trail's edge. This was a dream photo for me when I started to visit Great Meadows NWR in Concord MA years ago but had eluded me time and time again. I finally got to nail the shot with the perfect background.

I suffered greatly to get this photo of Bass Harbor Lighthouse in Maine at sunset. I arrived 3 hours early and camped out on the rocks, a few minutes before the sun sank behind the lighthouse the blood sucking vampires appeared by the thousands. Despite being covered from head to toe in deep woods off I was eaten alive while waiting the the sky to turn orange. Was it worth donating a pint of blood to the ravenous mosquitoes? Absolutely!

On my second visit to Machias Seal Island in the Gulf of Maine we were unable to go onto the island and spent an hour circling the island to view the Atlantic Puffins flying around the boat. I was able to capture several in flight as the boat rocked back and forth in 4 foot swells.

Another find last weekend at the environmental park was this cute little song sparrow. I loved the soft background since usually they pose in the brush and grass along the foot path.

American Bitterns are typically elusive and hide in tall grass and not see in the open. I actually was able to film this one for a few minutes while it hunted at the edge of the grass in a small wetland near my home.

During my first visit to Fort Pickering to photograph Winter Island Lighthouse I was blessed with an amazing sunrise of pastel colors. I used a Lee Filters 6 stop neutral density filter to pull a 10 second exposure to smooth out the water for an ethereal feel to the scene.

This almost didn't happen as when I arrived at 4:30am the gate was closed to the park, I had no idea. A park worker arrived some 15 minutes later as I pondered my options after a 2 hour drive and kindly let me in before the park opened.
