Thanks to Mrs. A for a lovely birthday lunch @market_restaurant today - savoury churros, Alhambra Reserva 1925, ceviche, croquetas, scallops, pork rib eye, smoked beetroot and a slice of Catalan cheesecake to finish.

Luckily I’ve clocked nearly 20k steps today!

Full and sleepy now…

England 1-1 Colombia, 8pm Tuesday 24th May 1988.

This is the full Los Cafeteros squad, the first ever to play at Wembley stadium. I was there, aged 8, with my Colombian mother and a group of my English primary school mates, sitting in the away fans end, to see Andrés Escobar score his only ever international goal for Colombia to equalise Gary Lineker’s opener for England and to witness the majestic pomp of Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama in the flesh.

A story I shared with @fosterfootball_mine on the @iswakpodcast recently - and after which he generously posted me this original programme.

Not only was it a joy and a huge privilege to be on the @iswakpodcast but the legend that is @fosterfootball_mine also sourced and posted to me this programme - from the very first live football match I ever went to, when in 1988 I was taken by my mum to Wembley to see her beloved Colombia vs England.

It’s kind of emotional looking through it, my mother having passed away shortly after the publication of my book on Colombian football, Narcoball.

I’ll share more photos of the contents next week.

Thank you Richard, I will cherish this souvenir.

Killing Maradona is free to borrow from both Brighton and Hove libraries! They also have Narcoball - but someone has the copy from Hove at the moment so no pic I’m afraid! Ask your local library if they have my books - and if not you can always request them! taken in Hove Library by @davidarrowsmithauthor
