Howdy. This is my song Madeline. It’s slow…but it’s happy…It’s another one inspired by Gilead…that John Ames knew what it was about… #songwriter #songwriting #acoustic #originalsong taken in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia by @davidclementsmusic

Played a few gigs recently & lots of people commented on how many songs I have about sad old lonely blokes…make of that what you will. They’re not wrong - but in my defence let me just say…sad songs are the best songs. I’ve got enough sad songs to compile the saddest record ever made. Might just do that one day. 🙏❤️🙂❤️🙏 #sadsongs #songwriter #originalmusic #songwriting taken in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia by @davidclementsmusic

This is a snippet of Memory of You. I wrote it after reading a masterpiece of a book called Gilead by the great Marilynne Robinson. In it the main character - John Ames - is watching his wife & young son playing in the sunshine. John is old & dying & he reflects on the precious essence of the memory…& how he wishes his wife & son could hold it after his death & understand how precious it is from his perspective. It’s a beautiful book. You should read it. 🙏❤️🙏 #songwriting #memory #lovesongs #gilead @marilynnerobinsonsmind by @davidclementsmusic

Howdy. This is the first song I ever wrote as a young lad of 27 or so…prescient maybe. Still like it. Just got a lot less time than I had when I wrote it….#oldsongs #songwriter #firstsong #originalmusic taken in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia by @davidclementsmusic
