Porsche Rennsport Academy - Modular Livery Design for @type7 + @porsche.motorsport + @manthey_racing What can I say? Designing a full racing grid with 23 modular liveries on the latest Porsche 992.2 Cup was an absolute dream brief.Drawing inspiration from the Bauhaus movement peculiar angular layouts as well as Porsche’s own racing aesthetic both in the present and in the past, the designs feature a range of 6 Porsche PTS colors over GT Silver: Guards Red, Signal Yellow, Riviera Blue, Signal Green, Ruby Star, Pastel Orange. The aim of the project, which I had the pleasure of bringing to life alongside @olliestafford @nat_twiss and, of course the man @tedgushue was to give the drivers the genuine feeling of being part of Porsche’s racing history, today. At the same time, it was crucial to keep the most easily damageable parts such as front and rear bumpers interchangeable. Big thanks to the whole @type7 team for the opportunity. “The iMac G3, originally released as the iMac, is a series of Macintosh personal computers that Apple Computer sold from 1998 to 2003. Apple’s head of design Jony Ive and his team developed a teardrop-shaped, translucent plastic case that was a radical departure from the look of the company’s previous computers. […] When discussing the idea of a machine that inspired positive emotions, the designers mentioned colorful candy dispensers. Materials tests with solid plastics looked cheap, so they made the case translucent.”The iMac G3 Bondi Blue was my first introduction to technology, design and the internet. It’s hard to think of a more iconic or influential object in my life, one that has had such a profound impact on who I am today. Every time I go back to my parents’ house, I see that big, colorful translucent box, still sitting there like a museum piece. Inside that cathode-ray tube lie countless memories.“[…] for decades, personal computers were defined by unimaginative, beige boxes. The iMac, in contrast, did not affect the way consumers used computers but its design changed the idea of the appearance of computers themselves. New Balance 530 Racing Team, somewhere in the 2000s 💿The fluid, intricate forms of late-2000s Formula 1 cars, where every inch was shaped by aerodynamics, feel almost like they come from another planet. Sneakers design is cyclical, and I’ve always thought that the intricate silver details of certain @newbalance models would perfectly complement the aesthetic language of that era. Such an honor to have designed with @type7 this 911 Dakar livery, captured here through the lenses of @iamchrisart and @antonio.mocchetti at last Wednesday’s @tutto.bene.hillclimb The car features the distinctive TYPE 7 Orange over Shade Green Metallic, unfolding in dynamic ripples that wrap around the entire bodywork and pay homage to the striking 908/3 driven by Vic Elford at the 1970 Targa Florio.
