Drone training my young falcon. She buzzes the drone itself twice pitching effortlessly up 100’ above the drone before each pass. On the third pass coming from the left, she stoops to take the lure hanging from the drone and bring it to the ground. This trains both fitness and pitch; two assets she will need to hunt wild quarry. She’s learning fast. #falconry #gyrperegrine taken in Delaplane, Virginia by @davidgdecker

Drone trading my falcon in Delaplane thanks to my gracious friend@Allen Richards, the owner of this outs, historic piedmont farm. The pond offers an excellent opportunity for wild duck flights later in the season. For now she’s beginning to grab quail out of the air with the drone hovering above her. We will begin to increase the height of the drone until she’s ’waiting on’ about 1,500 feet up, giving her a high vantage point for attacking feathered quarry. #longwing #falconry #gamehawking taken in Delaplane, Virginia by @davidgdecker

I’m not sure where she thinks she’s going with the hose..Gry/peregrine hybrid and I think I’m going to call her Fang because she’s mean. #falconry #gamehawking taken in Arlington, Virginia by @davidgdecker

Drogon digs the sprinkler. He can sit under it for two hours and stays dry. There’s a gland at the base of the tail that secretes an oil which he applies to the feathers with his beak as he preens. #falconry #ornatehawkeagle taken in Arlington, Virginia by @davidgdecker

A great day at the US Open round of 16. Alcaraz/Paul, Foe/ Medvedev, Tsisipas/Shelton, to name a few. What a great way to spend a day. #tennis #usopen by @davidgdecker

Captive raised Gyr/Peregrine hybrid falcon from a super dark female Gyrfalcon for the coming season hunting ducks in the Piedmont. Hoping my ponds will bring ducks in abundance! #falconry #duckhawking taken in Arlington, Virginia by @davidgdecker

There something about an early A coupe that’s just perfect. It’s simple and elegant and unbearably soulful. Not to speak of the sound of a primitive 4 cam engine-visceral, gritty and loud and stinky. If you get it, you get it. If you don’t, I won’t hold it against you😊. #porsche356 #yellowcarerra taken in Arlington, Virginia by @davidgdecker

1973 I got my federal permit to keep and fly hawks and falcons for falconry purposes. This is one of my first red-tailed hawks trapped in the piedmont. I’ve since been a licensed, master falconer for over 50 years. Still chasing my passions! #falconry #falconrylife taken in Arlington, Virginia by @davidgdecker

A lot of personality for a raptor that takes full grown monkeys in the Amazon basin. Ornate Hawk Eagle named Drogon from GOT. #hawkeagle #falconry taken in Arlington, Virginia by @davidgdecker
