Happy 25th Anniversary Melanie! (25 - that can’t be right, I still feel no more than 25 in my head, and it feels like just yesterday when met in Montreal!). You are no longer just a snack, but a Happy Meal with kids and toys! ;) Here’s to several more decades of adventures and daily nonsense. Pack a fun bag with one fancy outfit and meet me Friday afternoon, no questions asked. #anniversary #25thanniversary #happyanniversary taken in Connaught Heights by @davidgenerativity

My favourite snaps from Montreal/ Fantasia: with wife Melanie & a grad school pal (with photobombing Vancouver killer pitcher) at McKibbons (fest pub), and my kids n Mel having fun after a Montreal night out and Emily -now 18 Quebec legal drinking age - following her first alcoholic drink at a restaurant. #montreal #fantasia #fantasiafilmfestival #family taken in Montreal, Quebec by @davidgenerativity

Date night with the wife. Melanie really really liked the tasty pizza at St. Augustine’s, we both enjoyed the sexy strange sweet fairy tale Wicker at VIFF (with many Crown stars, Peter Dinklage and Alexander Skarsgard - whose Wicker torso popcorn bucket you can 3D print in time for the feature’s wide release next month). Also, I dug the way Off-VIFF (where our Sugar Rot feature screened on the 7th) badass-edly repurposed VIFF posters to advertise their last screening day at the Rio holiday Monday October 12th… #staugustinespub #viff #theriotheatrevancouver #offviff #datenight taken in St. Augustine's by @davidgenerativity

Best pleased that Canadian Anne Carson, who taught at McGill when we were there, was just awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2026. Amused that the Nobel committee had trouble finding her as she was “in Iceland listening to the wind” and impressed that she plans to celebrate by going for a walk in the woods with her husband to get away from the ringing phone, and to plan how to give away the prize money. Timely with resurgence of impactful art expressing through classical themes and myths (e.g., Odyssey, Hadestown). #nobelprize #annecarson #canadiannobelprizewinner by @davidgenerativity

An absolute delight of a Mark Mothersbaugh (& orchestra of killer local musicians) concert of his film and TV music w/ film segments, and related stories. My highlights: the three Devo songs (Gut Feeling from Life Aquatic; Worried Man from the Neil Young film Human Highway, Uncontrollable Urge from Wolf of Wall Street/ Ridiculousness), the Wes Anderson film pieces, the animated film pieces and the Pee Wee’s Playhouse opener and closer. An absolute delight. #viff #vifflive #markmothersbaugh #peeweesplayhouse #vancouver taken in Vancouver Playhouse by @davidgenerativity

Wednesday Oct 7th at 7:30pm headlining Off-VIFF, Becca Kozak’s Sugar Rot, if you dare (pairs nicely with Marion La Coroller’s Species at VIFF on Oct 9 if you want to double up on your body horror). Sugar Rot is a locally conceived and produced ice cream baby of an extreme feature powered by a blistering punk rock soundtrack; it’s coming home after shocking the world. Don’t get consumed! @off_viff @sugar_rot_productions #sugarrotfilm #offviff #bcfilm #generativityproductions #bodyhorror taken in Cineworks Independent Filmmakers Society by @davidgenerativity

That Audain Museum is something else. The first time a day of Psych CE included choir singing lessons, art exploration, and an interview with an Andes plane crash cannibalism survivor/author. #conference #ce #psychCE taken in Audain Art Museum by @davidgenerativity

It’s a mini-festival of new extreme body horror features from two of the world’s most badass women directors coming this week at VIFF and Off-VIFF. First, local legend Becca Kozak’s unhinged and extreme punk rock feminist body horror feature Sugar Rot (of which I’m a producer) screens 7:30pm on Oct 7 at Cineworks at Off-VIFF. Then, on Oct 9 the new French hospital body horror feature from Marion La Coroller, Species (aka Sanguine) plays again at VIFF (after having its Canadian premiere Oct 1 with me as VIFF launched). One is a high budget gory sly satire of capitalism, the other an ultra low budget shocker where christofascist creeps consume our sweet tasting heroine. One got banned in Texas, one was the toast of Cannes. Both have very intense, very weird sex scenes and over the top body horror gore afflicting the female leads, in films that shock for pointed polemical purpose. Get infected and consumed this weekend. “Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it.” #species #sugarrot #viff #offviff #generativityproductions taken in Cineworks Independent Filmmakers Society by @davidgenerativity
