A patination can completely change the character of a sculpture from quiet, weathered tones that sit naturally within a landscape to richer, more expressive hues that catch the light and draw the eye.

Our finishes are created with the same attention to detail as the sculptures themselves. Through heat, hand-applied colour and carefully controlled techniques, each patination develops its own depth, texture and personality. The choice of material and finish is never simply decorative. It can alter how a piece feels, how it responds to its surroundings and how it evolves over time.

Flo was the first David Harber piece to feature our innovative hot patination finish, a technique using precise brushwork and heat to create a rich tapestry of colours and hues.

Our two new patinas take a quieter approach to surface and materiality, using deeper, light-absorbing finishes to bring focus to form, texture and the surrounding landscape.

Together, they mark an evolution within the David Harber collection, offering designers and collectors new ways to consider sculpture as part of its setting.

At our Oxfordshire workshop, our metal fabrication team brings expertise from highly specialised industries including Formula 1 and aviation. That experience in precision, problem-solving and technical craftsmanship meets the creative environment of David Harber allowing us to push materials further and explore what’s possible.

It’s where technical skill meets creative thinking, and where every detail matters.

What happens when a patina absorbs the light rather than reflecting it? Inspired by the dramatic landscapes of England’s Lake District, this deep charcoal-black finish references graphite mountains, rain-darkened slate and ever-changing skies.

Subtle bronze undertones add depth, while the darker surface allows the form, shadow and structure of Hydra to take centre stage.

Our new deep crimson patina takes its inspiration from the British countryside in autumn fallen leaves, weathered woodland and the warmth of fading light.

Rich reds and ember tones meet subtle notes of bronze and earth, shifting as natural light moves across the surface.
Making its debut on Bite, the continuous curves create the perfect canvas for this layered, changing finish.

Would you choose this new patina to sit quietly in your garden?

We’re expanding our palette with two new patinas, developed by Creative Director Matilda Howells and inspired by the changing character of the British landscape.

Rich, atmospheric and hand-applied, they bring a new depth to the collection, subtle enough to sit quietly within a garden, yet full of detail when you stop and look.

Because sometimes, it’s the quieter details that make a space feel special.

What makes a garden feel effortlessly considered? For garden designers, it often starts before the planting.
Proportion, sightlines, materials and structure create the framework, then softening with planting and bringing that structure to life.

The result is a garden that feels connected, cohesive and considered in every season.

What happens when sculpture becomes part of the landscape?
In the autumn sunshine, Torus catches the light and reflections from the water, creating a constantly shifting relationship between sculpture, sky and surroundings.

A reminder of how considered sculpture can add another layer to a space, changing with the season, the light and the viewer’s perspective.

“The best sculpture doesn't dominate a space, it belongs within it, responding to light, architecture and the seasons until it becomes part of the landscape itself. I'm excited to build on that heritage while bringing new materials and ideas to the studio's next chapter.” - Matilda Howells, the newly appointed Creative Director at David Harber

For Matilda, material is part of the conversation. Bronze evolves with age, stainless steel captures and reflects its surroundings, while weathered steel settles naturally into the landscape. It’s this relationship between material, place and time that gives a sculpture its sense of permanence.

What makes a sculpture feel truly special? Perhaps it’s the hands behind it.

Every David Harber piece is handmade by skilled craftsmen, with years of experience shaping, finishing and refining each detail. From the first cut to the final surface, there’s a level of care that simply can’t be replicated by mass production.
It’s the subtle marks, the character of the materials and the attention to detail that give each piece its individuality.

Because when something is made by hand, you can see and feel the difference.
What detail do you notice first when you look at a sculpture?

At the heart of Singapore, where glass, steel and lush gardens meet, David Harber’s sculptures bring a little magic to the everyday.

Created for Gramercy Park and New Futura, the works transform their surroundings in unexpected ways. Polished surfaces catch the sky, trees and architecture, shifting with the light, while organic forms emerge from the landscape and water becomes a canvas for ever-changing reflections. At New Futura, Torus plays with the architecture around it, bending and reflecting the world in its polished surface. Across Gramercy Park, textured surfaces and shimmering metals create moments of surprise amongst the greenery.

Together, the sculptures introduce a sense of wonder into the heart of the city, turning gardens into places of discovery and familiar surroundings into something a little more magical. After all, there is always more to see when you stop, look twice and let the landscape surprise you.

On 22 September, the autumn equinox brings almost equal hours of daylight and darkness , a quiet turning point as the landscape begins to shift.

For us, it’s a reminder of how much light shapes the way we experience sculpture. Reflections change, shadows lengthen and familiar forms take on a different character.

As summer gives way to autumn, what changes do you notice first in your own landscape?
