United to Drive as we call ourselves is a group we try and get together atleast twice a year to do some serious driving. Yercaud, Coorg, Mysore, Coimbatore, Rameshwaram are some of the places we have done over the last two years. We have become a strong group who drive hard together. Kolli Hills was special. It was 12 cars, 30 friends and 70 hairpins within around 24kms. Very narrow at places, driving as a convoy was a challenge. But we had our friend Nishad who guided us safely. Here I am thinking what a sensible truck driver! Moving to the left to give way. Within a second I realised it was not for me, but for a bike coming opposite side on an expressway. The bike didn't even blink, didn't slow down and seemed like his right of way. For a moment I thought I am going the wrong way!There is no point in having great roads if basic rules are not followed. Puts our lives in danger. Imagine owning a car and the fear to use it on our city roads. Of late I prefer to use Uber as it saves you from the so called terrorists on the road aka our Private Bus. I enjoy driving so much and don't want to get into an argument with the goondas on the road.They have the authority or right to do as they please and bring fear to the other road users. Why because our authorities are not able to take or implement strict action against them. They will stop ONLY on the middle of the road. They will come in your lane.Overtake you from all sides, honk continuously and flash lights. They are as I call them "Randattam pakka thugs". Our authorities wake up for two days after there is an accident and someone dies. That's it. Then back to square one. But why can't they be controlled? High time. Couldn't ask for a better start to 2026, doing what you most love. Getting behind the wheel, and to do that with someone who @tadukuttan you are meeting after many moons and also with his son @kevinthomas_02, I couldn't ask for more. Absolute coincidence we happened to be wearing the same Tshirts.Was extra special as my nephew @ittys91 could also be a part of this. Early morning disciplined departure and through some beautiful roads taking you through picturesque Neriamangam, Idukki with winding roads and minimal traffic. Always refreshing to drive with a set who love their cars,it's sounds and pretty much stick to the rules of the game. From dreaming to be a KSRTC driver, having learnt my driving on my father's Fiat ( Premier Padmini) and Ambassador to having a Maruti 800 ( mom bought for me) as my first car and from thinking will I be ever be able to buy a better car. Things have worked much more than I ever manifested for. Even ran a taxi service briefly just for My craze of driving.My current partners and the seats where I find the most joy. One is 8 yrs, 110k kms, other is 18 months and 25k kms. The older one has been with me to Bhutan, Leh, Ladakh, Spiti, Kaza etc and many more. Not once has she let me standing on the road, yes not even a puncture. The younger one bought at the YOLO or IF NOT NOW WHEN is an absolutely beast. A decision made after nearly two years of should I, a test drive in Dubai Autodromme and countless discussion with enthusiasts. Wanted the best that was there. Puts a smile on my face everytime. Something's I never thought possible by me happened.The not so social me has made friends with boys who are half my age and have been able to do some memorable trips. I have always believed that age is just a number. When I am with this gang of absolutely amazing boys it makes me 20 years younger for all the fun we have. No egos no nonsense. Just pure unfiltered fun. Though sometimes they drive me to the edge with speed and I think I loose a few hair!! But there is a mutual trust we have developed. A trust in each other's driving skills when you drive as a pack.This trip to Coorg, Mysuru, Coimbatore had it all. Real life video games is what I feel like driving on our roads is. Today this happened. At a curve, the red car jumps out. Didn't even have the courtesy to say sorry. In driving we can never say we have seen it all. The unpredictability of what to expect on our roads everytime we go out. Been driving close to 37 years now and driving is a religion for me. Small small practices developed over the years. Never speed in narrow lanes and always think someone is going to be stupid and come out from the side. You get mentally exhausted YES but it helps!! This boy was extremely lucky and my car always protects me. The small karmas we do on the road. The days you wait for. With everyone being busy nowadays it is very difficult to get the squad together for a drive. Nothing comes close to the excitement of a group convoy drive with like minded friends who LIVE TO DRIVE. With our highways being in terrible condition it was a risk when we decided the Idukki route especially considering the rains. Also considering we have powerful machines which can do crazy if not tamed properly. Road conditions can be tricky especially when these cars have been engineered more for dry tarmac. But hats off to @bmw they have engineered these machines to handle everything if done with a little care and knowing to what limit you can push. Stay within 80% limit of man and machine is the mantra to be able to enjoy a safe fun drive. We got everything. No rain, mild and then pelting blinding. But with proper communication and understanding as a group we thoroughly enjoyed the day. The machines were put through their test.
