(Click the link in bio for full video of my Houston pro race experience)

Houston was the best I’ve felt going into a race and even though I didn’t get 1:05 like I planned. I felt like I still had some output left to give when the race was over (Especially, in the runs). But, Anyone who’s done Hyrox, knows the danger of running too fast early on and paying the price for it later in the competition. Now, that I’ve ran a couple of them. Next one, I might have to run closer to the red line and see what happens😅.

I also didn’t work on wall ball training as much going into this race, and it showed haha!

Starting to really like this new hobby (maybe career path) and can’t wait for the next opportunity…..

All the miles (618 miles) ran, the 5 a.m. early mornings, and the sacrifices throughout my journey; lead to this unforgettable experience running on behalf of @ijm in the @nycmarathon

I started off great for the first 15 miles, averaging 7:05-7:15 minute /mile pace…….until the dreaded mile 16 BRIDGE, that’s DEADLY silent! I started seeing a ton of people stopping, having to stretch their legs from cramping. Then, BOTH of my quads and calves started cramping. I tried shaking them out and fighting through it, but no luck. Next, my hamstrings ALSO started cramping 😅. Now, I’m on survival mode for the REST of the race (10 MILES haha). Thankfully, the crowd was so energetic and was handing out everything I needed like pickle juice, orange slices, and even muscle relaxing spray! I ended up running a 3:43 marathon. Not what I hoped for, but the experience and spreading awareness for @ijm was far more important than the time. 🙏🏾🙌🏾

I’m beyond blessed and honored for this opportunity, and have a greater appreciation for marathon runners. I’m thinking I might consider moving down to half marathons from now on 😅

“Don’t count the reps, make each rep count!

With the Hall of Fame game tonight. I want to remind rookies (especially, the ones who don’t have many opportunities with the first team) don’t get discouraged and keep working for that roster spot. I wasn’t the starter at the beginning of my rookie season and made the most (first 3 times with the ball in my hand was a TD) of every rep on offense and special teams! There are always injuries throughout the season, and your number could be called at ANY time! Just be ready when that chance comes along, because you may never get another one. Most guys never know when their last snap as a football player will be. So, live it up and enjoy the journey! Learn from your mistakes and never get complacent during your success!

Good Luck! 💪🏾🏈

AZ Cardinals Legends weekend!

People always ask what I miss most about the NFL…this is it.
The life updates, the wisdom being spread, and most definitely the trash talking amongst teammates, friends, and mentors.

Congratulations @larryfitzgerald on being inducted into the Cardinals ring of honor! One of many well-deserved accomplishments brutha! by @davidjohnson31

“The ceiling is so far away.”

David Johnson and Julian Stanford finished HYROX Boston Men’s Doubles in 1:01:40, less than two minutes off sub-60. Now David is running it back, training on Centr’s new Perform Series cardio machines to keep building the engine he needs to break 60.

Follow along as he shows how he’s preparing his body for the demands of HYROX racing. Full episode out now on YouTube. by @davidjohnson31

“If I want it, I got to get it myself.”

David Johnson spent eight seasons as an NFL running back, where the job was 100 yards at a time. HYROX asks for a full hour. This season, he returns to HYROX Boston, the venue of his first race, with a hybrid engine built on Centr’s new Perform Series cardio machines and Centr x HYROX Official Competition Equipment. His goal: a sub-60 finish in Men’s Doubles with Julian Stanford.

Tampa Hyrox Pro Solo

Time: 1:07:31 (previous-1:08:29)

At the end of the day, I’m not satisfied with my results. I thought mainly focusing on running, while maintaining station work would definitely improve my overall time. But that’s the thing about Hyrox, you can’t just focus on a few stations or just the running. It’s EVERYTHING in the race you must try to master. This is also what keeps me motivated to improve! I know the format of the race, but there are many different strategies in training and running the race. Overall, it’s a PR (barely) and I’m grateful to be able to do this, but it’s back to tuning my training strategy. I’ll be back stronger, faster, and more determined to break that sub-60 milestone!

(Positive note, I felt better throughout the race, with more energy. With the feeling that I left more in the tank, especially on the runs. Maybe, it’s just a matter of rethinking my race strategy 🤷🏾‍♂️)

Hyroxers: what’s your biggest advice in training or race strategy? Let’s hear it 🤔

First time doing pro doubles together and we came to Boston with one goal in mind.

RUN SUB 60 MINUTES!

Unfortunately, we came up just ONE minute and FORTY seconds short! But best believe that just gave us more motivation to come back stronger and shatter that time in our next competition.

That Hyrox arena atmosphere was exhilarating, and kept us moving throughout the race. We can’t wait for our next opportunity to compete again. Appreciate everyone who’s been supporting us in our journey from the NFL gridiron to the @hyroxworld takeover! 🙌🏾🙌🏾

David Johnson spent his NFL career making plays in open space, and retirement gave him a new kind of distance to cover. The former All-Pro running back, drafted to the Arizona Cardinals began marathon training after football and took on the 2025 New York Marathon, using the challenge to support International Justice Mission (IJM) and its work combating human trafficking and modern slavery by @davidjohnson31
