Brilliant to be back in India, where it all began for us - and to catch up with so many of our childhood friends at a truly special wedding. This was at the pre-wedding haldi ceremony, symbolising purification and protection. It is traditional to don yellow while the bride and groom receive a special blessing as they are daubed with a turmeric-based paste. by @davidmcmahonphotography

Melbourne

How many hot-air balloons can you see in this brief clip of dawn over Melbourne’s historic sporting precinct? At daybreak in clear weather, the balloons are a staple in this beautiful city, floating silently over the landscape. Clearly visible here are the dawn colours over the Dandenong Ranges, as well as the Melbourne Cricket Ground, AAMI Park, Olympic Park, the Yarra River, the stadium courts (Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena and John Cain Arena) at Melbourne Park, home of the Australian Open tennis tournament, the first Grand Slam of the year. 313-4231a by @davidmcmahonphotography

A neon cornucopia is always on offer at vibrant Times Square, even in bright daylight. At the halfway point of this clip, you can clearly see the silhouetted bronze statue of composer Geroge Cohan in the distance. I was lucky that two birds flew into - and then across - my frame while I shot this clip at Pirates Beach, Galveston. The water was the colour and texture of pewter, bringing contrast to the dawn sky. 307-9731 by @davidmcmahonphotography
