For all the songs sung and miles traveled together, I thought we might still have a few more.

Long live Duncan Sheik, a revolutionary of musical theater, chart-topping popstar, thoughtful Buddhist, advocate for peace and social justice, and generous friend.

More to say at a later date. Today I join with beloved colleagues and enthusiasts to celebrate his life and music. by @davidpoe

Played the Kennedy Center almost exactly two years ago today. An honor and thrill. May today’s restoration of its facade rekindle a new, pragmatic hope in those of us who believe America will not be remembered for its grift, gold, hatred of strangers, or wars of choice, but for the gifts its artists, thinkers, and truth-tellers have given to the world.

SPECIAL GUEST: DAVID POE

“David Poe gives the singer-songwriter a much-needed jolt,” wrote Rolling Stone of his solo debut, produced by T Bone Burnett. He is a Composer Fellow of the Sundance Institute. Songs by David Poe have been recorded by artists from a variety of genres, featured in TV and film including Nashville, Dexter, and Diary Of A Teenage Girl, and in commissioned works for American Repertory Theater, the LA Dance Project, Rambert Dance, the Malala Fund, and many more. He has toured the world with the likes of Bob Dylan and Joan Baez and is a vocalist for the Blackstar Symphony, the orchestral presentation of David Bowie’s final masterpiece. A native of the American Midwest, Poe served as the sound engineer at CBGB’s Gallery in New York before being signed to Sony Music.

A songwriter’s greatest thrill is to hear their work performed by great musicians. The incomparable Larry Goldings spontaneously joined me last night to play a set of songs he had never heard while the room held its breath. Creativity as intuitive as his is so rare, so beautiful and moving.

Gratitude to Joel Eckels, Brendan Hines, Kristin Toedtman, and friends and colleagues who joined us last night.

The song is called Hope Takes All My Time. Soon to be a major motion picture under the baton of Tim Davies. @timo.chen @vivekmaddala @e.kahng @mark.m.menning @mark.los.angeles @garykordan @dwightrhodenchoreo @alsgro @brendanhines @tarademoulin @kteddles @joeleckels @elliotsiegel @will_hawkins_music @grantrloud @girlsgetcold @lisacallahancoach @sarahmichaelnovia @kingshables @jbabzie @thehotelcafe @timdavies72 @katrinaschilleroz @kesime 🎥 by @christine.kim.homes taken in The Hotel Cafe by @davidpoe
