1. Summer garden studio
2. Detail - photographic transfer print to canvas. It's all about the substrate -canvas-and the grayscale.

The intention is to follow up my previous 'combine' paintings.
The subject of the image seems perfect to work with in this heatwave - a summer reclining chair -a recliner- that is somewhat animated by its angular position.

There's a kind of beauty and pleasure in adapting to conditions ( too hot in the city ) and making artworks in new environments. We are, however, blessed with a very old walnut tree providing reasonable shade!

3 paintings on found photographs.Mainly lakes or lochs depending on your preference.
The found image has a potency. It is the abandonment of these images that I feel attracted to. Emptiness on emptiness.
I have always found the intervention of painted photographs a very nice visual subversion. Photography has became ubiquitous but in a very lame way.
Early photography captured light and time.

The concept of ubiquity was initially used as a religious term in the 1700s to describe the omnipresence of a deity.
Tech has become the deity art must question by seeing through the binary cracks. Gotta keep on keeping on, as they say!

There's a kind of absurd normality surrounding absence that I find fascinating. The very notion of anthropological images and landscapes that become as strong as the lived experience. The encyclopaedia used to be the only access to distant lands and peoples. Photography, for a period, became a vital portal to an unexplored world.

These commercial images found in a colour tourism book now have a new lease. My absence allows an objective distance from the original image that allows a new reading. Painting over a photograph is a rejection, or at least, a questioning of 'reality' and 'truth'. It is, also, a real joy to find material on the street and re-purpose it.

Absence is a powerful aesthetic tool where what is withheld, missing, or erased can speak louder than what is visibly present. Rather than representing an empty void, it acts as an active medium to evoke grief, transience, or the passage of time.

1-8.
A series of painted photographs. A painting on a redundant photograph.
I often search for and utilise photographic materials from the streets of Budapest. Sometimes for collages or source material.
I like my studio practice to encompass found materials. With this found material there is a sense of seeing potential in something that was abandoned and lost.
These small works incorporate painted drips and gestures that, I hope, engage the act of looking by making a new image.
