My first birthday in Colombia 🇨🇴 Hello 46!! 🥳 🎉 🎂

It was a special one thanks to my girlfriend, Daniela, and all my friends who helped celebrate, especially my brother Kenya who came to visit from Florida 🙌🏼

Couldn’t fit all the pics in so here’s a short rundown:

Friday, we had dinner at Mamasita Medallo followed by drinks and dancing in Provenza 🕺🏻💃🏽
Saturday went to a play my friend @zulmarivera.voz starred in and watched the Knicks win the NBA Finals.
Sunday took Kenya to Ciclovia and had brunch in Manilla, then we made dinner for the girlfriend and her sister, such a great night!
Monday we went on a tour of Cumona 13, one of my favorite places in Medellin.
Tuesday, my birthday, Kenya and I got massages and had lunch. Then we all celebrated with an amazing dinner at @simah_restaurante and the best view in the World. Daniela got me an AMAZING cake with a picture of me as a kid 🤣 I loved it and couldn’t have asked for anything more!! Well, maybe some hair from young Toback 😆

I can’t thank everyone enough who helped make my birthday so amazing, 🙏 Living in a new city in a new country, learning a different language and culture, and being able to find love and build such a wonderful and loving community of old friends and lots of new ones, truly warms my heart. It’s proof that moving to Colombia is one of the best decisions of my life. I’m living my best life at 46 and loving every minute of it! I can’t wait to see what this next year has in store.

A little late on this one, but happy to have been nominated for a One Voice Award for Best Outtake!

We record all the time, but the flubs, mis pronunciations, and general lunacy that takes place in the booth never sees the day of light…until now!

12 years ago today, I almost lost my leg.

I was at Relay For Life playing touch football passing time and ran into a generator trailer hitting below my knee on a steel bar. It went through my leg severing my patellar tendon, took most of the cartilage, damaged my femur, and caused a lot of trauma. Think taking an axe to the knee. The lead Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon told me it was the 2nd worst injury he’s ever seen. Not a contest one wants to win.

My chances of keeping my leg were less than 50% due to infection and the extensive damage done. Surgery successfully put my leg back together, then to clear the 2 week infection window. I made it and knew I’d keep my leg. But the doctor told me I’d be lucky to walk without a cane…

Then came months of therapy, hard work, and what I later realized was PTSD from the accident, but I was determined. I worked 7 days a week for 4 months, getting stronger, gaining range of motion, and learning how to walk again.

It was the hardest 4 months of my life, but the whole process changed my perspective on life, taught me so much about myself, and changed the person I was. I realized so much can be taken from you in an instant and I wanted more from life. I decided to pursue my dream of being a voice actor and started classes while still using a walker.

Today, I’ve gained full range of motion and strength in my knee. Doctors said it shouldn’t have been possible, but I like beating the odds.

I want anyone who’s still reading this to understand that the pain and hardships we go through in life are what make us who we are, and how we respond in those times is a testament to our true character. So when you’re faced with a challenging time, just remember you have the ability to persevere and come out on top.

People ask me would I go back and change what happened…my answer is always no. This accident, while the most painful and difficult thing of my life, changed me for the better in so many ways. I wouldn’t have built my career in Voiceover and I wouldn’t be the man I am today.

Huevos del finca (eggs from the farm) 🙌🏼

Another example of how amazing the food is here in Colombia. Eggs straight from the farm, such a rich yellow color. You know these ladies were grazing pasture and eating what they naturally eat, instead of cheap processed corn feed.

In honor of the 2 year anniversary of photographing the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse, I’m resharing.

These are the best photos I’ve ever taken and was the thrill of a lifetime to capture 😃 I’ve gotta give thanks to @petermckinnon who captivated my interest in photo/video and learned so much from. He too got an AMAZING shot of this same eclipse. I highly suggest you go find it on his page. Greatest photo he’s ever taken too and that’s saying something 🙌🏼

We’re just over a year away from the “Eclipse of the Century” which totality will last an incredible 6mins 23seconds. There won’t be another eclipse like this for over a 100 years.

And the best part, the max viewing time will be in Luxor, Egypt. Yup, that’s right, a total solar eclipse with the backdrop of the Pyramids 👀

How it started ➡️ How it’s going

10 years ago, Sean and I won the VO Peeps International and National Scholarships and a brotherhood was formed. At this time, Cristina and I were wrapping up the Rate Guide. A week later I joined GVAA and a month later it was Sean’s turn.

What a wild ride the last DECADE has been. So grateful for this first opportunity that has blossomed into the career of a lifetime and has given me some of the best friends, correct that, family I could’ve asked for ❤️ taken in Hilton Atlanta Airport by @davidtoback
