This Friday :) Footage is from the first sessions we did with @andyshick last November- almost exactly a year ago! While all of our recording was completed in a few locations throughout Coast Salish Territory, the footage you see here was from our time staying at Enoksasant (also known as Horne) Lake and in the studio at @barnhousesound, in Qualicum Territory. We are thrilled with how it’s turned out. Can’t wait to share the album on Friday, and then play it all live on the 17th. 📸: @mzim.photography by @davisandjames
Greetings! Our new track ‘olive song’ is now set free in the world. 🎧🫒✨ “A seed is a safe, the key is the earth” It’s a kind of love song, to do with the lines between love and consumption, admiration and appropriation, sensuality and violence, connection and solitude, immediacy and slow growth. It’s also about olives, which Sam used to hate but now quite loves (this is not a metaphor). But really, we think all this is best captured in the music. We’d love it if you had a listen.  The album art is a photograph of a risograph print by our dear friend Nicolas Mouros @printedgeographies, made specially in response to this song. We had fun creating this with @andyshick (production wizardry) at @parksoundbc, with some splendid help from @hudsonscheles.music. Shimmeringly mastered by @railtownmastering. And a big TY to @creativebcs for helping to fund the demo process. We will be playing this one live, along with the classics and some other new tunes and covers at our Dec 4 house show. Talk soon, -d&j p.s. Apple Music ppl- the tune has taken the scenic route to get there and will be arriving shortly! by @davisandjames
New song + Dec 4 house show! 🫒✨🎶🏡 Hey folks- just dropping by to say hello and mention that we are putting out a new a new tune on Nov 21. It’s called ‘olive song’ and as far as d&j songs go, this one’s a bop. To celebrate, will will be playing an unplugged house show on the eve of Dec 4 in Vancouver. There will be complementary mulled wine, apple cider, goodies, and perhaps a few olives to enjoy whilst listening and lounging. Tickets to the show, as well as song pre-save link, can be found in ye ole bio. Oh and the pics - 1: a sneak preview of part of the cover art 2: S.J. precious years is a year old! Looking back/looking ahead… (Back) A year ago feels like another world - and it was is in many ways. Now we are in the here, slowing circling onward, phenomena arising and passing in the perpetual now. Whatever the days ahead hold, will be lucky to hold them nonetheless. As you have likely noticed- things are a little less busy around here than a year ago when we released our first album. Sam James started a new full time position with the orchestra, (congrats Sam!!!). V proud of that guy. I am backing teaching full-time, and chipping away at some other music/art projects (which I’ll be sharing over at @secondbeachswim as they develop). We are starting to work on some new d&j material, and the road less travelled awaits :) (Ahead) We do have a small collection of live-off-the-floor renditions of the songs from precious years. We are putting those together with some demos for streaming in the near future- the ends and spare threads from the weaving. We were lucky to receive a demo recording grant from @creativebcs (gratitude 🙏🙏) to develop two new songs. These tunes have now blossomed into finished recordings, and will let their petals fly into the wind in 2025. We can’t wait to share them with you- they both add some new dimensions to our sound. That’s what’s what! Wishing you well wherever you are 💛 -CD ps can you where’s Waldo yourself from the release show pics in slide one? If anyone wants the physical copy of any of the photos - send along a message! by @davisandjames

An initial jam of a new tune. Lyrics below! Marigold rush Past lives Spent building up trust Doesn’t cost too much Just a loving touch I think we hit the gold mine Laying in the sunlight Falling from the skyline Just caught it at the right time It’s about time Cedar theatre Golden oldies On the silver screen Dear silver stream I thank you very much - Secret recipe No cost it’s free Little city, big mountain Pour out a little tea Just save some for me Wake up! Summmer updates! ☀️ The days of July and August have gifted us many inspiring moments, both productive and relaxing: We were lucky to spend a few days up the sea to sky, hosted by fam/friends to prepare for recording and to jam/write a bit. Then in the shelter of the studio, we brought 2 new songs to life. Both are a bit special, as Sam sings lead vocals on one (and wrote the lyrics!), and the other features a guest performance from Cara Bateman (who has also just put out a summery new tune!) Dogs, greenery and collaboration have been in abundance. Shout out to a few folks for helping these pursuits come alive and being a part of the summer sounds: @andyshick @b.cara @hudson.scheles @aprilzhong_ @psiemens @emrigz @emmalove_c Stayed tuned for an outdoor video of us playing one of our recently written jams!! Hope you are finding moments of calm wherever you are. -Chris by @davisandjames
Hello out there! Wherever you are in this wide world of perpetual change, I hope you are taking good care of yourself. Thought I’d pop back on to the ol insta to share some updates from davis & james. We have been taking a break from shows (1st pic is from our last show in March) to literally and figuratively tend to some other gardens. Sam has been busy with the VSO and I’ve been keeping up with my usual smorgasbord, most recently putting seeds in the ground in SK. Fear not, more music is in the way. We’re stoked that we received a grant to help with recording a couple songs this summer. Also some extended content from our album precious years is also heading to streaming in the near (geologically speaking) future. And woosh! It’s been a year since we put out the album’s first single, say it again. If you are new-ish around here, check out the music video we made for it (one of our favourite creative concoctions- there’s a link in our bio). Or if you’ve seen it, you could watch it again. Or even leave us a comment on the YouTube video to tell us how this song has in any way been a part of your life soundtrack over the past 12 months. We would be curious to know if it has! That’s all for now. Hope ya enjoy the random pics. Sending you love and relaxation! -CD by @davisandjames
