USA � vs Bosnia-Herzegovina � World Cup match at Levi Stadium �. USA Wins, 2-0.

Amazing experience. The atmosphere was electric and at times pure exhilarating madness bordering on and mayhem. Full-blown pandemonium threatened to breakout on numerous occasions.

Falcon perched on light post just east of the post office on Fifth Street, Davis, California gave me the hawk eye. He was watching me as I approached and screeched as I got closer. I stopped and watched and wondered if he was about to attack. He continued to watch as I passed under and away. There is a dirt open field and I think he might have been scanning for mice and small prey. Italian meat sauce. Includes 2 pounds of ground beef, 2 pounds of spicy Italian sausage, 2 large cans of whole peeled tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, chopped and caramelized onions, red and green bell peppers chopped, fresh crushed garlic, parsley, basil, oregano, bay leaf, Italian seasoning, a touch of red chili flakes and salt and pepper of course.

After cooking the meat separately and draining off excess grease, I caramelize the onions and peppers. Then combine all ingredients into a big pot. Then I crush the whole tomatoes with a potato masher. Then turn up the heat and keep stirring and crushing. Once it starts to boil I lower the heat and place a lid on it. Then I let everything simmer for 4-6 hours with periodic stirring. by @daviscupper

La Sirena Winery. I went to Napa today. I stopped at La Sirena Winery in Calistoga. They have a lovely new tasting room right off Highway 29 just before you run into Main Street, Calistoga.

This winery is owned by Heidi Barrett. Heidi is wine making royalty. She is frequently referred to as the Queen of Napa winemakers.

Her father Richard Peterson was the first winemaker in Napa to have a PhD in chemistry and was the chief winemaker at BV vineyards for decades. He started making wine in 1948. He is a major pioneer of Napa quality wines and an innovator who set the groundwork for making Napa a world class wine making region.

Most people know that Jim Barrett, owner of Chateau Montelena winery, produced the 1973 Chardonnay that won the 1976 Judgment of Paris, the most famous wine contest ever — which subsequently revolutionized the world of wine. Jim’s son, Bo Barrett married Heidi Peterson.

Heidi was the winemaker at Screaming Eagle 🦅 for 13 years among many other premium and boutique wineries. Btw, I bought a 2012 bottle of Screaming Eagle which retailed for $5,700 per bottle.

So now you have a sense as to why Heidi is referred to as winemaking royalty. She is currently a consultant to many of the ultra premium wineries in Napa and commutes by helicopter. 🚁

I made ham and bean soup for my wine club tonight. It contains seven different types of beans, seared ham cubed, chopped carrots and chopped and caramelized onions. Delicious. by @daviscupper

Great lunch party.

First course was tangy, tasty shrimp over saffron rice. Followed with a main course of beef stew with crunchy, warm sour bread. All paired with a crisp Chardonnay for the shrimp, and a premium Cabernet for the stew.

Finally, a triple-berry pie with raspberry chocolate chip ice cream for dessert. Delicious. by @daviscupper

I have been a member of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars for over a decade. In my humble opinion these three 2019 Cabernet Sauvignons are the best tasting upon release I have ever tasted. Wine Spectator rated Fay a perfect 100 score, SLV a 99 point rating and the blend of the two, the velvety Cask 23 deserves 199, of course. Okay scores over a 100 are not allowed so just call it magnificent. Truly, they are elegant, rich, luscious, robust, smooth as silk and bursting with flavor. Amazing vintage. by @daviscupper
