Part-time farm help wanted

Davy Jones Shellfish Co. is hiring part-time help for our oyster farm in Peconic Bay. The job includes working on the boat, handling cages, sorting oysters, and preparing orders.

This is physical work outdoors. Commercial fishing or farm experience is preferred, but reliability and a willingness to work matters most.

One last night at Eddie’s celebrating the farmers, fishermen, winemakers, oyster growers and makers who feed us all summer.

This isn’t a formal or seated dinner. Come hungry and eat your way through a roaming feast: Davy Jones oysters, Amagansett scallop crudo, chilled mussels, local fish ceviche, late-summer vegetables and dips, and littleneck clams.

From the wood fire: roasted oysters with Hungarian wax peppers, fonduta and breadcrumbs; Treiber apple-glazed pork skewers; fried longfin squid sliders; stuffed top neck clams; soy-marinated opah skewers; and Silver Sands pane bianco.

Plus McCall Wagolais meatballs, local vegetable skewers, Treiber blackberry buckle, local wine, music by DJ Matt Shaw, fire pits and s’mores as the sun goes down.

With Treiber Farms, KK’s Farm, Davy Jones Oysters, Pipes Cove Fish Trap, and McCall Winery.

By August, the hands are raw, the skin is burned, the days have blurred together- but the water doesn’t care that it’s Sunday, that it’s hot, or that you’re tired. The tide comes anyway.

The longest days of the year somehow never feel long enough in a place as beautiful as Peconic Bay. We’ve got work to do.

The impact of Aquaculture on the waterways of Long Island is palpable. Yesterday we witnessed one of the most incredible events in oyster farming—our oysters spawning. What looks like clouds in the water are trillions of gametes being released as millions of oysters reproduce. Healthy oysters don’t just produce exceptional seafood—they help sustain the future of our bays.

The gametes will turn into larvae and will then travel wherever the tide takes them to carry on the cycle of sustainability and regenerative growth that keeps Peconic Bay healthy and thriving with life.
