To my beautiful clients, friends, and community,
I wanted to share a little update. As of today I will be stepping away to focus on my health and recovery. Sometimes life reminds us that we need to care for ourselves with the same love and attention we so freely give to others.

As I undergo the next step in my healing journey, my responses will be slower than usual. Thank you in advance for your patience—I promise I’ll be back in my inbox as soon as I’m able.

To my incredible 2026 brides and clients, my fellow artists, teammates, planners and friends: thank you for your compassion and grace through the delayed replies, schedule changes, and occasional cancellations as I did my best to navigate my world being turned upside down. Your kindness, flexibility, and understanding have meant more to me than you’ll ever know. ( To my future 2026 brides, if you haven’t heard from me and you see this post, it’s because I will be back to work by your big day and am so looking forward to it!)

I tend to hold my cards close to my heart, so I am unsure how much of this journey I will be sharing publicly, but if I can leave you with one thing, it’s this: if something doesn’t feel right in your body, listen to that quiet voice. Trust yourself. Advocate for yourself. Your health is always worth fighting for. As women we wear so many hats, and it’s easy to put our own concerns on the back burner. Please know how important you are and that you matter and you owe it to yourself to put yourself first sometimes.

To my absolutely incredible friends, near and far, old and new —thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, for every message, every phone call, every check-in, every hug, every prayer, and every act of kindness. This experience has reminded me just how fortunate I am to be surrounded by such extraordinary people. My gratitude for each of you is deeper than words could ever express and your love has truly been the driving force throughout this whirlwind.

I’m looking forward to putting this behind me and taking this time to heal, and I can’t wait to be back doing what I love again soon. Until then, thank you for your patience, your support, an by @dawnabootmakeup

One of the best tools in a makeup artist’s kit isn’t a brush… it’s your camera.

Photographing your work allows you to step back and see your makeup the way everyone else will. The camera catches things our eyes can easily miss—uneven blending, texture, symmetry, colour balance, or areas that need just a little more attention.

I’ve made it a habit to photograph every look I create before I call it complete. It’s one of the best ways to improve your skills, refine your technique, and train your eye.

Happy anniversary to two of my favourite people in the whole world. If you know me, you know my brother is my rock. Our bond has only grown stronger over the years, and distance has never changed that—we still talk almost every day. Hard to imagine that could get any better, right? Enter Denise. If I could have dreamt up the perfect woman for him, she would have had nothing on Denise 🩷

Your love story—and everything you’ve overcome, both separately and together—is something I admire more than I can put into words. The strength, patience, and deep respect you have for one another shines through in the life you’ve built. It’s not just beautiful—it’s inspiring, and you both deserve every precious ounce of this love.

Adventure weddings done RIGHT ⛷️💍

Ro + Jard understood the assignment… and then took it straight to the top of Whistler Mountain. What a way to close out ski season 🙌

From a stunning mountaintop ceremony to one epic celebration at the Cellar by Araxi, this day was off the charts. The kind of wedding that reminds you exactly why you do this.

Absolute dream couple, surrounded by the most fun, kind, up-for-anything crew of family + friends. Truly couldn’t have asked for a better day.

And major kudos to our photography + video team—because let’s be honest, skiing with all that gear is basically an Olympic sport 🎥🎿

A Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada and Forbes Business Council member, she brings such a thoughtful, elevated approach to everything she creates.

I had the absolute pleasure of doing her makeup for the Self-Made Breakfast Tour here in Vancouver, and truly… she is just as lovely as she is inspiring. We went for a soft, glowing Aussie girl glam which included bronzed glowing skin complete with faux freckles, a warm brown eye, and full pout. Shes’s an absolute beauty inside and out. I am absolutely loving this trend because I have been reminiscing quite a lot lately on 2016 as it was such a special year for me — not only as one of my favourite years, but as the year that completely changed the course of my life.

It began in a whirlwind of creativity and achievement: three magazine covers (2 international!) and five editorial spreads in cherished bridal publications like WedLuxe, Dauphine, and Elegant Wedding. Those pages captured more than beauty — they held the spirit of a season where I felt unstoppable, inspired, and deeply aligned with my craft.

I was blessed to work alongside visionary photographers, stylists, hairdressers, athletes, models, and artists — each collaboration a spark that fueled my love for this industry. I also had the immense honour of working as a personal makeup artist to two remarkable women, Suzanne Rogers and Eleanor Welsh, whose elegance and strength inspire me to this day. And at the same time I was pouring my heart into teaching at Humber College, guiding young artists toward their own creative dreams.

Then came the moment that changed everything.

In March, I welcomed my first son, Benjamin, and discovered a new kind of purpose. Becoming a mom shifted my entire world. From that balance of ambition and motherhood,
Dawna Boot Beauty was born: an award-winning team of unbelievably talented women with hearts of gold. It has been the honour of my career to share their artistry with our clients — and to build something meaningful, together. I believe the world needs more candid photos like this. I’ve noticed that many peeps tend to mainly take group photos that are positioned and looking at the camera (nothing wrong with that, those are amazing as well for memories)!! But I feel that we need to balance those out with natural spontaneous in between moments!
🤗

Imagine how special it would be if those around us were able to foresee when a moment like this could happen and just have their phone or camera ready waiting for the moment to unfold in front of them? We would all have a collection of photos that can remind us of how we felt in that one moment!✨

The trick is just to be conscious about it! If you wanna give an ultimate gift to a friend or family member, when you see them naturally connecting with someone, or just having the time of their lives, instead of saying “hey look here for a picture and smile!” get that raw moment first without them even knowing it! You’ll get better at intuitively for seeing those moments and capturing them for others with just a wee bit of practice 🤗
