Another quilt made for our American Red Cross SoCal Training Academy raffle! This weekend, Southern California volunteers from all 5 counties came together for classes and team building. It was a great time! Our volunteers are amazing and give so much of their time and energy throughout the year to their communities affected by disasters large and small. Along with other prizes, I slipped this quilt into the prize offerings. It is based off of a free pattern called Plus Playtime by Sandra Walker @mmmquilts and worked perfectly for our “One Red Cross” philosophy…all activities within Red Cross working toward one mission. Orange County Fire Authority was kind enough to allow me to take pictures at their beautiful location AND the person who took the quilt home happened to be a former San Diego Assistant Fire Chief and long term valued volunteer. So glad it is going to a good home☺️ Maybe next year I can work up the nerve to ask to take pictures of the next Red Cross quilt on a fire engine! 🚒🫢 by @dawnnvillandre

My latest quilt for a raffle for the Southern California region’s Red Cross Training Academy. (Thanks to @sdmetromodernquiltguild for providing a fantastic group project as a prize as well!) Titled “One Red Cross” to symbolize the Red Cross’s cohesive work toward their mission, this was inspired by a free online pattern (Modern Swiss Cross by Shelly Morgan). I am so excited and honored that one of my abstract paintings was accepted into the juried art show at Art on 30th! The theme is Barnyard and it is going to be a fun one to experience. Opening reception is Saturday from 4-7pm. by @dawnnvillandre

Thank you to Nicholas Ball @quiltsfromtheattic for the great Improv Fish Workshop! So fun!! I only got one done because I was glued to my screen with all of the improv technique he was showing us. I finally made it out to Material Happiness in San Diego to see what fabrics were there. What a fun little store and I LOVE the sustainable aspect of it! This store is keeping a ton of fabric out of the landfills by reselling. Great place to find hidden gems and community outreach project fabrics. Definitely worth stopping by. I got these two Robert Kaufman linen blends that I am so excited about. The owner Melissa was such a pleasure to meet and chat with!! Finally played around with my Applipops rings today! Need a mindless, stress reliever that is not high in calories😂😂😂 and appliqué fits the bill!! by @dawnnvillandre

I was looking for a quick and easy quilt to make for some friends I was visiting in Virginia Beach. I used mainly scraps and splurged on the Kaffe Fassett wide sateen backing (Tonal Floral Turquoise). The “Cutting Corners” quilt by Jenny Doan of Missouri Star @missouriquiltco was perfect. It went together quickly and was just the right mix of traditional and modern I thought my friends would like. I quilted in the ditch and used a simple technique from Jacquie Gering’s workshop @jacquietps to create a diamond pattern…again, quick since time was short. Thanks to all my quilting buddies who helped me with my quilting decisions!💕 My friends loved it! by @dawnnvillandre

Alright, to all of my quilting friends…I need advice! Just finished my Cutting Corners quilt (#missouristarquiltco) for a good friend. Kaffe Fassett Tonal Floral Turquoise on the back (#kaffefassettstudio). I am thinking of quilting straight diagonal lines parallel to the long side of the scrappy triangles about 1/2” apart, but don’t want to make it too stiff or lay wonky because it is too directional. Thoughts?

It feels good to use up some scrap fabric and finish a project on my to-do list! The foam for these cushions have been in my closet for YEARS!! So glad they finally got done. by @dawnnvillandre

Can’t believe I am posting my (very beginner) sample from the Jacquie Gering walking foot workshop this morning! If you squint and look at it from a distance it looks really good😂. I just had a blast putting together my first Dresden Plate! I think I will choose fabric for the centers later and make them consistent across the quilt. I was trying to figure out the best way to use my new Anna Maria Horner “Love Always” fat quarter bundle I got last week at our field trip to Needlecraft Cottage in Pacific Beach. These are going to be perfect…and so much fun! by @dawnnvillandre
