JEANIE RIDDLE
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀

—
“Color confuses me” is an unexpected line from a painter who uses colour so profusely as Jeanie Riddle; if anything, colour appears to be a central protagonist. But as soon as we flip the pages of This World of Shapes, our sense of her art practice is irreversibly transformed.

This book is a lucid effort to integrate, articulate and contextualize the visual and textual work of the Canadian artist from multiple perspectives: her own writings prefaced by a soul-stirring introduction by her own daughter Leela; the uniquely insightful analysis of author and artist jake moore, who has engaged Jeanie’s work for the past twenty years; the atypical and equally revealing scientific insight on trauma and neuroaesthetics from Dr. Arturo Abundes-Corona; and the integrative accompaniment of curator and writer, David Ayala-Alfonso, foregrounding the thought that precedes and exceeds the art.

At the same time, This World of Shapes is a comprehensive revision of a twenty plus year career, featuring a vast selection of visual and textual works, installations and found objects that celebrate an extensive exploration into abstraction, in all its forms, but also into the complexity of the experiences that constitute the essence of Jeanie’s artistic work.

Y qué chimba ayudar. taken in Obrera Centro by @dayalaalfonso

(ESP en comentarios)...FULL CIRCLE!!! Last week, and after months of travelling through the daunting international postal infrastructures, Felipe Steinberg's postcards from his work, "I See You, You See Me" arrived in my apartment in Mexico City. They came more than three months after I published my text on Felipe's work, which mentions sending the postcards, sometime in April.

.

They did not come unscathed from the hands of the local postal workers: their beautiful greek stamps were torn from the three postcards sent by Felipe, heavily damaging two of them. Spoliation, as mentioned in the text, continued to manifest, even in the events that followed the completion of my text.

[] EXHIBITIONS

Gobernador | Sala 2

— David Ayala-Alfonso

Los esperamos!

Gobernador | Space 2

We are pleased to announce the opening of “Tableaux Vivants”, a solo exhibition by Antoine Granier, curated by David Ayala-Alfonso.

“Antoine Granier evokes the theatricality of the Belle Époque: he positions himself simultaneously in the past and the future by drawing on the visual codes of the golden age of illusionism. Back then, the spectacle of magic was presented as an “opaque machine” that foreshadowed the future through technologies that were illegible to the audience. Antoine’s work stands as a form of resistance to the aesthetic determinism and technological drive of our present, inviting us to rekindle the joy and uncertainty that characterised the world of invention and spectacle.”

— David Ayala-Alfonso

We look forward to seeing you!
