My Auntie Tina was truly one of a kind.

She was smart, beautiful, generous, loving and effortlessly cool. She had a presence that could captivate an entire room and an aura that was entirely her own.

She was a loving mom, aunt, and grandmother who absolutely adored her grandchildren.

To my uncle she was his partner in every sense of the word. His best friend, business partner, his go to, his consigliere. She was the different perspective when he needed one, the person beside him through the decisions, the successes, the pivots and everything life brought their way. They built a life together, and she was truly his person.

For years, I got to learn from her, not just through what she taught me, but by watching her when she gave me my first job at 16. How she treated people. How she carried herself. How she built something of her own and continued to evolve without ever losing who she was.

As I got older and eventually became a business owner myself, I understood her differently. I appreciated the things I had witnessed all those years before in a way I couldn’t have understood then. Her influence found its way into so much of what I built, who I am and who I want to be.

It’s been a day full of emotions, bittersweet feelings, with the realization that pieces of the people we love eventually become pieces of who we are. I guess that’s the blessing in all of this, that we get to carry a piece of them with us long after they’re gone and there’s something incredibly comforting in knowing that love doesn’t leave with them,

it simply becomes part of us.
