✶ Birdie ✶

This A5 lino print was inspired and created for one very special little dog - Birdie.

If you live in Edinburgh, chances are you have spotted Birdie or may even know her, she is the sweetest gremlin you could ever meet.

Birdie and her wonderful owner have had to battle since the beginning of the year with one unknown illness after another, which has sadly culminated in them discovering Birdie has cancer, small cell gastrointestinal lymphoma to be precise. While this is a terminal diagnosis, there is still so much life ahead for Birdie, as long as she receives the right treatment going forward. To add to the bad luck, after months of tests, new diets and endless emergency vets visits, Birdie's insurance has maxed out and there's still bills and more treatment ahead.

Birdie has brought so many smiles to so many, so it's only right we give back to her. That's the purpose of this print. All profits from these prints will go directly to helping Birdie on her journey and giving her owner some breathing room.

They are £12 including postage and available on our website. Prints will be sold on a preorder basis and will be printed at intervals. If you need your print urgently, please get in touch. While the price includes free shipping, delivery fees may be added if you choose to buy other items from the shop.

hello adoring fans of birdie - to save me bursting into tears every time one of you runs into me and asks how she’s doing, we thought we’d give an update. sadly, little bean has cancer, gastrointestinal small cell lymphoma specifically, and there is no cure. the good news is that it’s very slow growing and hopefully if i can get her meds and diet right she and i can have a few more years together. she’s super happy and the vets really couldn’t believe the results as she’s so bouncy. my job now is to fill her life with nothing but joy, so when you see us, we’re not looking for sad looks or comments about her seeming tired/not herself, please, just pure positivity. birdie says love you all. by @daynamcalpine_

today marks six months of birdie being the biggest medical mystery imaginable. my wee soulmate became very unwell after she was prescribed anti inflammatories in january and the months that have followed have been filled with anxiety, upset, small pockets of hope followed by crushing disappointment, not a lot of answers and a whole lot of carpet cleaner. she’s had endless tests and scans (and a v expensive hypoallergenic diet) and still we can’t figure out what’s making her into such a sad spewtastic small friend. the hardest bit is that she’s so happy and full of life around the relapses, and just when it feels like it’s finally over, another happens.

she’s currently back in hospital after another episode (they make her very weak) and she’s set to have samples taken of her small intestines and an endoscope carried out. please keep her in your thoughts, i am so deeply desperate for this to be the time it’s figured out. i love her so very very much. she’s my best friend.

and to all of those closest to me who have beared with my absence, plan cancelling, constant state of panic and floods of tears over the last six months, i love you to bits. and the biggest thank you to my sister @kezstar.tattoos for coming to the rescue to rush birdie to the hospital at all hours of the night without hesitation.

for those who’ve messaged about the renovation and the end of its content, i’ve had to stop for the foreseeable as after endless appointments and emergency vets visits, birdie’s insurance has officially been maxed out. for now, my entire focus is on trying to continue getting her the care she needs.

100 Days. 100 Portraits.

Day 32. Dayna.

Such a lovely shoot this afternoon - one which reminded me why I love doing this. Dayna and I had never actually met before (surprising since we have hunners of mutual friends) but very quickly we were nattering away like old pals! Sometimes the best part about making portraits are the wee moments of connection and conversation that happen alongside them 🫶

It's blowin' a hooly out there today, which can often be a bit of a challenge, especially when the subject has such incredible hair! However, we embraced the wind, and I think it worked out nicely!
