Reflecting on my experiences at the #IMC23

I remember reading @johncmaxwell books growing up - Leadership 101, How Successful People Lead, Developing the Leaders Around You, Everyone Communicates Few Connects, The 360 Degree Leader, Developing the Leader Within You and The Power of Your Leadership, to mention a few.
He has mentored me in Leadership, Communication and Interpersonal relationship from afar with his books.

In 2015 after I moved to the States, I joined the Maxwell Leadership Team called the John Maxwell Team (JMT) at that time. My goal was to grow and evolve. Life and graduate school interrupted my journey with the Maxwell Leadership Team but I stayed connected with team via social media.

Last year I made an intentional decision to plug myself back with my MLT family.

Over the years, the principles John has taught me from his books have shaped me and by extension my team @mind_shift_initiative.

It gets better and clearer by the day.

It can only keep getting better here on out.

Thank you John for your investment in me. It was great meeting you in person.

I met @roddygalbraith in the hallway, introduced myself and he said to me ‘you should be on stage time’. Well, you have planted a seed and I’m watering it. Thank you for the investment in me.

It felt like @valorieburton was literally speaking to me. The personal experiences she shared resonated with me and I just connected with her message. Really appreciate you coach.

🔥 STARTING OVER ISN’T FAILURE. SOMETIMES, IT’S THE BRAVEST THING YOU’LL EVER DO.

Starting over at 30? 40? 50? 60?
Starting over after a failed business?
Starting over after rejection, disappointment, or a broken dream?

DO IT. 💥

You are not starting from zero. You’re starting with experience, lessons, wisdom, and a clearer understanding of what matters.

🌱 A failed business can teach you how to build better.

💔 A broken relationship can teach you to love wiser.

🚪 A closed door can redirect you toward a better opportunity.

⛰️ A setback can reveal a strength you never knew you had.

Remember: You can outgrow a chapter without regretting the story.

You don’t owe your past the rest of your future.

You don’t have to remain stuck just because you’ve invested years in something that no longer serves your growth.

✨ Change direction. Learn a new skill. Start that business. Apply for that job. Rebuild that dream.

Your next chapter doesn’t need permission from your last one.

🚀 SAME DREAMS. NEW PLAN. BIGGER YOU.

Don’t be afraid to start over. The best chapters of your life may still be unwritten.

🚨 BEFORE YOU TRY TO CONTROL THE CHAOS AROUND YOU, LEARN TO MASTER THE CHAOS WITHIN YOU.

Because sometimes…

The biggest storm isn’t outside. 🌪️
It’s inside your mind.

Stress.
Fear.
Anger.
Overthinking.
Impatience.
Uncertainty.

And when you don’t manage what’s happening inside you, everything outside feels even louder.

🔥 A restless mind creates restless decisions.
🔥 Uncontrolled emotions create unnecessary conflicts.
🔥 Fear can turn small problems into giant ones.

But here’s the shift:

CALM YOURSELF → CLARIFY YOUR THINKING → CONTROL YOUR RESPONSE.

You may not control the traffic. 🚗
You may not control people’s behavior.
You may not control unexpected problems.

But you can control how you respond.

🛑 PAUSE before reacting.
🌬️ BREATHE before deciding.
🧠 THINK before speaking.
🎯 FOCUS on what you can influence.

Try this when chaos hits:

STOP → BREATHE → NAME IT → CHOOSE.

“What am I feeling?”
“What is actually happening?”
“What can I control?”
“What response will make things better?”

🌊 You don’t calm the ocean by shouting at the waves.

You steady the boat.

And sometimes, you are the boat.

AND YOU’LL BE BETTER EQUIPPED TO NAVIGATE THE CHAOS AROUND YOU.**

🔥 LOYALTY IS EASY WHEN EVERYTHING IS GOING WELL.
THE REAL TEST COMES WHEN THINGS FALL APART.

Anyone can celebrate you when you’re winning. 🏆

But who stays when you’re struggling?

Who tells you the truth when everyone else is telling you what you want to hear?

Who stands beside you when there’s nothing to gain?

That is loyalty. 🤝

💼 In business, loyalty builds trust.
❤️ In relationships, loyalty builds security.
👥 In friendship, loyalty builds confidence.
🌍 In communities, loyalty builds unity.

But remember:

Loyalty doesn’t mean supporting everything someone does.

Sometimes loyalty is having the courage to say:

“I believe in you—but you can do better.”

🌱 Loyalty is showing up.
🛡️ Loyalty is protecting trust.
🗣️ Loyalty is telling the truth.
🤝 Loyalty is staying committed when convenience says walk away.

Imagine a world where people were as committed to building others as they are to building themselves.

🚨 A BUSINESS CAN SURVIVE A BAD MONTH.
IT MAY NOT SURVIVE A CULTURE OF DISHONESTY.

Think about it.

When employees tell the truth, problems get identified earlier.

When leaders communicate honestly, trust grows.

When businesses keep their promises, customers become more confident.

When companies reject fraud and corruption, they help create a culture where integrity becomes normal—not exceptional.

💼 HONESTY → TRUST
🤝 TRUST → STRONGER TEAMS
🏢 STRONGER TEAMS → BETTER BUSINESSES
🌍 BETTER BUSINESSES → STRONGER SOCIETY

Imagine an employee discovers a costly mistake.

They can hide it…

OR

They can say:

“I made a mistake. Here’s what happened. Here’s how we can fix it.”

That moment may cost the company money.

But hiding the truth can cost much more.

Because dishonesty doesn’t just create a problem.

It creates a culture.

And honesty works the same way.

One truthful conversation can build trust.

One honest leader can influence a team.

🚨 WHAT IF YOUR BIGGEST FAILURE IS ACTUALLY YOUR BIGGEST ADVANTAGE?

Nobody celebrates the rejection.
Nobody posts the failed attempt.
Nobody talks about the business that didn’t work, the opportunity they lost, or the dream that fell apart.

But failure can give you something success often doesn’t:

EXPERIENCE.

🔥 Failure teaches you what doesn’t work.
🔥 Failure builds resilience.
🔥 Failure exposes weaknesses.
🔥 Failure sharpens your strategy.
🔥 Failure forces you to grow.

Think of it like climbing a mountain:

Fall → Learn → Adjust → Climb again → Get stronger.

The person who has never failed may have confidence.

But the person who has failed, learned, adapted, and kept going has something different:

ADVANTAGE.

Your failure is not automatically your future.

What you learn from it can be.

So don’t waste your failure.

Study it.
Learn from it.
Adjust.
Rise.
