Why I prefer this version of middle with Goma

On walks, Goma sometimes walks ahead of me, so I find it easier to get her to come into position with this version. It also means her leash is less likely to get caught around my legs.

A little tip I found that works for Goma, I mark and reward her each time her body touches my right thigh, before she gets into the final position. I realised this helps her associate that touch with where she’s supposed to be, so she can get into position more consistently over time.

Jurong Lake Gardens is really huge, but there’s actually a lot to do near the south carpark without having to walk too far.

Just a five minute walk from the carpark and you’ll reach the grasslands, where there are a few hills for zoomies. From there, it’s also just a short walk to the Rasau Walk boardwalk.

Away from the main path around The Oval, there are lots of little nature spots to explore and walk through. You’ll just need to keep a lookout for them. Goma particularly loved walking on the logs scattered around. I tend to avoid the main path especially on weekends, because of the cyclists, so these quieter nature paths are so much better.

Save this for your visit to Jurong Lake Gardens!

PS. The Jurong dog run is also nearby if you want to make a whole day of it with your dog!

Just some of the exercises I’ve been working on with Goma to train her strength, balance and coordination while we’ve been spending more time indoors because of the weather.

The lateral movements have been quite challenging though, and i haven’t quite managed to get her to do the side steps properly yet.

Save this for your next training session and follow along for more of Goma’s training journey

Bad haze days call for indoor training. Here are 5 exercises you can try with an IKEA stool and a few things you can find around the house!

1. Squat (paws on stool)
2. Pivot (remember to practise in both directions)
3. Pivot with a platform (you can use things like bowls or books)
4. Rock Back Sit (paws on the floor)
5. Pivot with a step over pole

These are some of the exercises we’ve been working on to build Goma’s body awareness and coordination. The pivot variations are especially useful for helping her become more aware of how she moves her hind legs.

Make sure your setup is stable and non-slip, especially when using stools or makeshift platforms.

Save and try this for your next indoor training session!

Making the most of hazy days with some cronchy enrichment

With the really bad haze today, we’re spending time indoors, so a good chew is an easy way to keep Goma occupied. Can’t complain about all the cronchy sounds 😍

I love this little spot @gardensbythebay because there’s actually so much for Goma to do in a small area

There are lots of rocks for her to jump up on, little hills to run up and down, and plenty of space for her to explore. With the haze, I find spots like this really useful because she can still get some movement and enrichment in a short amount of time, without needing to be outside for too long.

This area is near the serene garden/garden pod container hotel if you’re looking for it!

Save this spot for your next GBTB visit with your dog.

Worked on Goma’s balance by gradually challenging her to find stability on smaller surfaces

I started with two bowls to give her plenty of room to work out the movement, then progressively reduced the surface area from stool → mat over one bowl → one bowl.

I reinforced each successful attempt along the way, 3 paws on the surface earned a reward, while getting all four paws up and holding her balance (even for a tiny second) earned a jackpot.

jokes aside, these sniff mats and puzzle toys are a great way to keep goma busy on hazy days when she can’t spend as much time outdoors

because apparently dinner comes with a full course load now

Had to carry her down cos she couldn’t figure out how to come down 😅

After a long week of bad weather, finally got to go take Goma out for nice long walks in her new harness from @nonstopdogwear. Saw this colourway on @maple_isnotsyrup and had to get it for Goma too!
