Need to register for Self Assessment? Don’t miss 5th October ⚠️

If you’re new to Self Assessment and need to declare income for the 2025/26 tax year, you need to tell HMRC by 5th October 2026.

This could apply if you’ve:
👉 Started working for yourself
👉 Earned more than £1,000 from self-employment
👉 Become a partner in a business
👉 Started earning additional income that needs to be declared
👉 Previously registered for Self Assessment but didn’t need to submit a return for 2024/25

And here’s the important bit: 5th October is the registration deadline, not the deadline for submitting your tax return.
If you’re registering for the first time, you’ll then need to complete your online tax return and pay any tax due by 31 January 2027. So, if you think you might need to register, now is the time to check rather than leaving it until January.

Not sure whether Self Assessment applies to you? That’s where we can help.

Get in touch with DAZE and we can help you understand what you need to do and make sure you’re prepared for the deadlines ahead.

🚨 Companies House filing changes…

The government has confirmed that major reforms to accounts filing are now pushed back to 1st April 2028, previously 1st April 2027

The delay gives businesses one full accounting year + 9 months to prepare. That’s roughly 21 months to get ready.

But here’s what’s already happened 👇

👉 As of April 2026, the free HMRC + Companies House filing service is CLOSED

👉 You now need commercial software to file accounts + Corporation Tax

👉 Manual and paper-based filing is on the way out

And when 2028 hits:

📊 Filing requirements will tighten

🔍 More transparency from Companies House

📂 Digital-first reporting becomes the standard

What this means:

This delay isn’t a pause, it’s a countdown. The businesses that use this 21 month window to upgrade systems, processes and software will be ahead. The ones that don’t? Will be scrambling.

🚨 🚨 Working From Home Tax Relief Changes Started April 2026

If you’re a Director or Employee working from home, take note 👇

From 6 April 2026:
❌ Personal HMRC claims for homeworking tax relief are ending.
✅ BUT your company can still reimburse homeworking costs tax-free.

For small limited companies with NO office:
✔️ £6/week (£312/year)
✔️ Tax-free
✔️ No PAYE or NIC

In many cases, this can even be credited to your Director’s Loan Account.
📌 Going forward, the company must reimburse the expense, personal claims will no longer be available.

Keep records showing:
• the company has no office
• you regularly work from home
• payments relate to additional household costs

A small change many directors could easily miss.

Making Tax Digital is changing the way sole traders and landlords report tax and the next phase started 6 April 2026.

If you’re a sole trader or landlord, here’s what you need to know:

👇 From 6 April 2026, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax kicked in for those earning over £50,000.

So what actually changes?
Instead of one big tax return each year, you’ll:
– Keep digital records (no more spreadsheets or paper notes)
– Send quarterly updates to HMRC
– Submit a final summary at the end of the year

What does this mean for you?
Less last minute stress, more visibility over your tax but it does mean getting set up properly before it starts.

At DAZE, we’re helping sole traders and landlords get ready now so there are no surprises later 👍

Cash Flow
/kaʃ fləʊ/
[noun]
1. The movement of money in and out of your business
2. The reason you sleep well at night…or don’t 😅

For small business owners and sole traders, cash flow isn’t just an accounting term, it’s everything. You can be “busy” and still feel like your bank balance isn’t what you’d hoped.

You can be profitable on paper and still struggle to pay bills.
Because what really matters is when money arrives, not just how much.

A few simple habits that keep your cash flowing:

✔️ Invoice immediately - speed up the money coming in
✔️ Put tax aside as you earn - avoid last-minute panic
✔️ Track expenses weekly - stay in control
✔️ Plan ahead for quiet months - build a small buffer
✔️ Claim all allowable costs - don’t leave money behind

At DAZE, we help sole traders and small businesses understand their numbers in plain English so you feel confident, not confused.
Better cash flow = less stress = more headspace to grow your business.

Made a profit but still feel broke? 😬

Totally normal. And super common.

70% of UK small businesses hit cash flow gaps every year.

Because profit is what’s on paper. Cash is what pays the bills. And those two don’t always match up.

Here’s what helps:

✅ Forecast your cash flow regularly (e.g. monthly or quarterly)
✅ Be real about what’s coming in and out during that period
✅ Don’t forget the big, once-a-year bills (tax, insurance, etc.)
✅ Some seasons are slow, some insane – plan accordingly

Not sure where to start?

We’ve got a step-by-step guide on our website

No jargon. No stress. Just clear numbers.

Still feeling stuck? DM us. We’ll help you figure out your forecast.
