“Lit” pictured here as a work in progress the finished painting will be on view this Friday in my solo show, “Orchid Rain on the Underground “ at PPOW gallery. This painting which is painted is part Reginald Marsh, part Mad magazine, pays tribute to the legendary east village venue. So many nights of unseen crazy fun. We are pleased to announce @dazeworldnyc’s third solo exhibition with the gallery, “Orchid Rain on the Underground,” opening March 20. Featuring a new series of paintings, multimedia installation, and a site-specific mural, the exhibition harnesses the passion and spontaneity of the graffiti movement of the 1970s and 80s while demonstrating a thoughtful and meticulous practice honed over the past five decades. While the version of New York City that fostered #Daze’s beginnings as a fine artist may feel like a bygone era, the works in this exhibition are evidence of its enduring legacy. We are pleased to announce that @dazeworldnyc’s “Orchid/Rose Combo,” 2024, has recently entered the collection of @icamiami, FL. The work was acquired in collaboration with Fountainhead Forum, a new initiative launched by @FountainheadArts that offers funding support for meaningful institutional acquisitions of works by past residency artists. In a loving tribute to an increasingly rare sight in New York’s subways, a painting by @Dazeworldnyc is featured in “Ode to the Orange Seats” at @nytransitmuseum.Debuting in 1971, the sunny seats quickly became an iconic part of the city’s transit system. This is a list of people I painted live trains with. Some of the people, such as; Crash, 2Mad, Dez, and Mitch77 I painted with multiple times. Others, only once. I’m sure that there are a few names missing. There are still times when I painted alone. I took photo’s of a lot of this work yet there are cars I have no photos of. They are just memories now. These photos are from an installation @crashone and I did on the fourth floor of Danceteria in 1982. The movie Wild Style had come out in full effect and we wanted to do a party that celebrated hip hop culture. We’ve tagged up various people from the movie including @zephyrgraffiti , @chiefrocker_busyb and @christein from Blondie. I did the invite for the party , Alan Rish was the promoter and @therealgrandmastercaz provided the beats. It was all stock caps, krylon, and rusto. We might have had one fat cap between us.
