Honestly, I used to keep my diagnosis a secret from most people because they tend to treat me like I’m dumber than they already think I am (cause of the silliness & blonde hair).

But the more I come to accept myself, the more I’m going to tell people to shove it.

What makes me different also makes me stronger: it’s easier for me to create training routines and stick to them, I notice patterns of offenses easier than my teammates, and I hyper-fixate on learning all the aspects of my position.

However, I’m not immune to the overstimulation of wearing pads in the heat, loud music/fans, or my skullcap sitting uneven under my helmet.

I may not be the best technical DB (YET) but I have the drive to continue working towards it with my other qualities to keep me motivated.

Still struggling to figure out how to watch film effectively? Follow @db13arbie to learn more.

The biggest thing that helped me with watching film as a defensive player was drawing up the other teams’ offensive plays.

It’s made recognizing play tendencies for personnel, down & distance, and depending on defensive coverages easier when in the game.

Make sure to follow for part 3 where I begin to breakdown how I watch film from the defensive POV.

Struggling to figure how to watch film and retain what’s happening? Follow @db13arbie to learn how.

While there’s different ways to watch film, I’ve notice I can retain what’s actually happening more and I get A+’s when Coach asks questions.

Instead of getting overwhelmed by all the clips start by picking to watch the OPPOSITE side of the ball you play on:
If you play defense - watch offensive plays first
If you play offense - watch defensive plays first

If you’re only watching for the side of the ball you play on, you don’t care about helping make your teammates better. Showing up for scout offense or defense knowing how your opponent plays WILL HELP YOUR TEAM WIN.

This is how I go about watching film each week for opponents, not post game personal/team film (but that part will be coming too).

Not to mention finding one okay with the whole “stay at home wife & professional football player” thing.

It’s easy to spiral when you make a mistake, but remember you have so many other chances to succeed left.
