Thank you for this recognition, @thebritishacademy! 💛

Last night in London, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra received the 2026 President’s Medal, the British Academy’s most prestigious award. The Academy is the UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences, and this is the first time the medal has gone to a recipient in the performing arts.

The award was presented to Maestro @dbarenboim and to Mariam C. Said, Vice-President of the Barenboim-Said Foundation. Musicians from the orchestra were there for the ceremony, performing Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 2 in A minor.

Impressions from this weekend’s return to the @elbphilharmonie, as part of the @divanorchestra’s 2026 European tour. Thank you for inviting us to be part of your 10th anniversary season. The orchestra and Maestro Barenboim were among the first guests of the hall, in April 2017, a few months after it opened.

Returning to Vienna with Maestro @dbarenboim was a chance to connect with audiences both on and off stage.

After the concert, some of our musicians joined the Musikverein's "Auf ein Glas mit …" for a public conversation with the audience, where we could talk about the orchestra, its principles and its projects.

This was our second time in the Golden Hall of @musikverein.wien this year, after February with Maestro Zubin Mehta. On this occasion we performed Schubert's “Unfinished” Symphony, Wagner's Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde, and Schumann’s “Rhenish” Symphony.

Danke, Wien — bis bald! 💛

Maestro Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra back at Vienna’s Musikverein.

The 2026 European tour brought them once more to the Golden Hall, where they have returned several times over the years. This was also the orchestra’s second appearance there this year, after a concert with Maestro Zubin Mehta in February.

Thank you for welcoming us back.

PEACE

“Peace is far more than the absence of conflict.”

A powerful reminder from UN Secretary-General @‌antonioguterres: peace requires upholding international law, protecting civilians and ensuring humanitarian access.

His message to world leaders is clear: defend the @‌UnitedNations Charter without double standards and protect civilians without exception.

It was fantastic to be back at @philharmoniedeparis yesterday with Maestro @dbarenboim, and to connect again with the public, both on stage and before it.

For the first time, a small group of our musicians met directly with the audience before a concert to speak about the orchestra, the principles set out in 2025, and how they work in practice. The talk was part of the Philharmonie's Rencontres, which invite audiences to meet the evening's artists ahead of the concert and ask questions.

We'll have another opportunity to meet and speak with audiences in Vienna, after the concert at the Musikverein.

Merci, Paris. Au revoir 💛 by @dbarenboim

Today marked the end of the first edition of Escena Escorial.

Closing this first year with Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra was deeply special. Maestro Barenboim has played a key role in my musical development, and welcoming this extraordinary artistic and human project, built around dialogue through music, made this closing night even more meaningful.

Seeing the Teatro Auditorio full of life turned a shared dream into reality.
