Our 2026 Rehabilitation / Renovation / Restoration winners faced the same problem: aging assets, unknown conditions, and no room to interrupt the people who depend on them. Here’s how #designbuild delivered. 🏆

1️⃣ Great Lakes Water Authority CSO Structural Improvements Project (@glwatermi) | Detroit, MI
Inspections found 2,600+ defects across nine combined sewer overflow facilities. Design-build let the team prioritize repairs by risk and add scope as funding allowed. The result: no unplanned discharges or stormwater bypasses and zero recordable incidents across 43,800 work hours.

2️⃣ NYCHA Brownsville Boiler Plant Replacement (@nychagram) | Brooklyn, NY
Replacing a failing steam plant without disrupting heat or hot water for 5,500 residents. Direct builder-engineer collaboration cut RFI and submittal turnaround to 2 days, versus 14 on traditional NYCHA contracts. The project closed with one Owner-directed change order (comparable projects can see 50+), no claims or disputes, and a finish nearly 7 months early.

3️⃣ CA DGS Resources Building Renovation (@dgscalif) | Sacramento, CA
Once the worst-performing property in California’s state portfolio, now a LEED Platinum workplace for 2,500+ employees. Progressive design-build let the team investigate the building before setting a $436M GMP, which eliminated about two months of schedule uncertainty. Certificate of Occupancy came 67 days early.

Hiring slowed across the U.S. in September, but construction is telling a different story. 🏗️

While the economy added just 29,000 jobs, nonresidential specialty trades added 12,300, and wages for construction workers are up more than 4% from last year. Skilled labor remains in high demand on active nonresidential projects.

Read more about what it means for design-build teams in our latest jobs report (link in bio)!

EV batteries, biosecurity research and nutritional manufacturing: these Merit Award winners show how design-build delivers speed, precision and community impact. 🏆

1️⃣ BlueOval SK Battery Park | Glendale, KY
This @Ford Motor Company EV battery complex went from cornfield to completion more than six months early and $1.6 billion under its budget ceiling. Tight coordination and technology kept rework below 0.5% across 11.4 million labor hours, and career fairs and workforce development engaged 750 people along the way.

2️⃣ Modernization of Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory | Athens, GA
This @usdagov modernization unfolded in seven phases over eight years on an active campus, with critical research continuing throughout. The result is a LEED Silver facility with one of the most complex BSL-3 labs in the agency's portfolio, which earned its biosafety certification in just four months.

3️⃣ Pharmavite Project Sunrise | New Albany, OH
This @lifeatpharmavite 225,000-sq.-ft. manufacturing hub went from groundbreaking to operational in 24 months, on budget and on schedule. It's projected to create 225 local jobs.
