It’s been over a year since I’ve touched rock music.

Summer of 2021 I reunited with members of my old band to take another stab at the whole rockstar thing.

That Summer concluded a much needed stretch of 18 months of sobriety.

sobriety brought clarity and myself more in touch with my principles and who I am as a person.

And I come to realize the people I chose to bring with me on the journey were not fit for what I was trying to accomplish as an artist or a songwriter.

So I killed the project.

I deleted my music from the streaming services and left over 70K streams and their royalties on the table. Without a second thought.

I needed a clear ending.

After nearly a decade of striving for my ultimate vision, I realized my approach was all wrong and I needed to immerse myself in something different.

So on I went.

I discovered @theweeknd the year before and Abel’s work was all I listened to for a full year.

Then I joined a songwriting and music production class with @ryantedder to learn his approach.

And then I joined @mixwiththemasters to deep dive into mixing secrets from the artists and engineers that made all the huge hits that inspired me to become a musician in the first place.

It’s been a journey, but we’ll worth the effort.

Most of you may not know but a few weeks ago my little brother Michael passed away after a lifelong struggle with complications from cerebral palsy.

To deal with the pain of loss — rather than wallow and choose to go into another cycle of depression— I chose music.

Michael hands down was my biggest admirer.

He was there in the early days when I got my 1st guitar and would play for 3 hours a day.

He was there when I bought a 4 track machine to record overdubs with.

He was there when I went digital in 99/2000 and learned loop based recording and cranked hundreds of demo recordings.

Michael was there and was the ideal feedback.

I’d burn a CD of my latest tracks and watch him immersed in sonic soundscapes with the look of pure joy on his face.

Michael I miss you so much, and it kills me that you’re gone, but thank you for the gift of being my little brother.

Been sitting on this awhile.

Shot at a Babes in Toyland event at The Mondrian/Skybar in West Hollywood.

Typically I don’t go to a lot of these types of events— but when I received the invite by the lovely Jamie Lee Kendall it was an immediate yes.

Thanks again for the invite and thank you to the wonderful camera operator who knew how to frame me in the best light. You’re an unsung hero.

Used some tools in Logic Pro to edit some live takes, carved a lil eq to make space for all the elements.
