A kidnapping outside a U Street spot. $4,500 taken. A demand for another $5,000 the next day.

And a name in the federal court record: Raymond “Cadillac” Smith.

In 1972, a night outside Evelyn’s Pastel Room became a robbery and kidnapping case that sent Cadillac to prison. Decades later, the details are buried in a footnote of another man’s appeal.

Big shoutout to Buddy Love—a Washington, D.C. homie who served decades in prison and stood on business through it all. He came home, found his own lane, and never looked back. Now he’s loving life, moving with purpose, and giving all praise to his Higher Power.
