A collection of things that inspired me during a recent visit to Maine. Slides 1 & 4: sculptures by “Blackie” Langlais, slide 5: a very successful (IMO) capture of ocean-y-ness by William Trost Richards, slide 6: a detail of The Dead Pearl Diver by Benjamin Paul Akers. by @dcartsweekly

The wonderful world of Wyeth at the @farnsworthmuseum. In the last two images, you can see an object from Wyeth’s home and the sketch that he did of it. His wife, Betsy, collected beautiful and interesting objects that were often featured in his work. I was amused to learn that she was also responsible for picking the titles of his pieces. by @dcartsweekly

Winslow Homer’s studio and a fantastic collection of his works at @portlandmuseum. Homer was not a formally trained artist, so tracking the evolution of his work in this show is especially interesting. In the second slide you can see where he carved his name into the window of his studio. by @dcartsweekly

Still wishing that I’d had more time to spend in the Raphael: Sublime Poetry show last month at @metmuseum. It was large, comprehensive, and beautifully curated. [Angel in Bust-Length by Raphael, The Birth of the Virgin by Fra Carnevale, Saint Paul in Prison by Workshop of Pieter van Aelst, Portrait of Bindo Altoviti by Raphael, and The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian by Pietro di Cristoforo Vannucci] taken in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York by @dcartsweekly

Magical visit with @hemphillartworks to the @delooper_foundation to learn about this important contributor to the Washington Color School. Cool fact: Willem de Looper started as a guard at the @phillipscollection and worked his way up to Chief Curator. The foundation is doing incredible work to preserve and share de Looper’s legacy. Head to @hemphillartworks to see a fantastic online exhibition of de Looper’s works. by @dcartsweekly

Absolutely worth the hype. If you can make it to NYC for the Domenico Gnoli show at @levygorvydayan, you should do it. taken in Lévy Gorvy Dayan by @dcartsweekly

This breathtaking show by @youngminlee_bojagi at @friendsartspace left me saying, “damn.” The soul, heart, craft, and history of the artist flutter through this work. The way the pieces are displayed invites the viewer to look through the gossamer material and see what lies beyond, like looking through a window framed with delicate, handmade stitches. It’s a meditative experience. by @dcartsweekly
