The future of Washington, DC’s economy will depend on how we grow, adapt and invest in what comes next.

Today, the DC Chamber of Commerce released its 2026 State of Business Report: Meeting the Growth Challenge, offering a data-driven look at the forces shaping the District’s economy and the opportunities ahead.

The report finds that while DC continues to navigate economic headwinds, the District has significant strengths to build on, including a talented workforce, strong entrepreneurial activity, a resilient visitor economy and new opportunities for downtown reinvestment.

Among the key findings:
• DC welcomed 27.2 million visitors in 2025, generating $11.9 billion in visitor spending
• Business applications increased 7.8% from 2024 through the first three months of 2026
• Office conversions completed in 2024 and 2025 created more than 1,900 new residential units
• The report identifies private-sector job creation, workforce investment and expanded housing supply as critical priorities for long-term growth

As President and CEO Chinyere Hubbard noted, "Washington’s economy is shifting - and our strategy must evolve with it."

The path forward requires collaboration across business, government and community to ensure DC remains a place where companies can invest, workers can thrive and new opportunities can grow across all eight wards.

The 2026 Small Business Accelerator Program is officially underway! 🚀 Recently, Participants and mentors gathered at the DC Chamber of Commerce headquarters for the first SBAP kickoff meeting, marking the beginning of the program’s next chapter.

Led by Darius Clair, founder of Deals Venture Group and principal consultant for SBAP, the kickoff gave participants and mentors an opportunity to connect, discuss the program roadmap and prepare for the educational sessions and one-on-one mentor relationships beginning this month.

Centered on the theme “Resilient Growth: Navigating the Modern Economy with AI,” SBAP 3.0 will equip this year’s cohort with the strategies, resources, mentorship and connections they need to strengthen their businesses and position themselves for sustainable growth.
