This means, starting in 2028 85,000 independent/unaffiliated D.C. voters will finally have the right to make their voices heard. BREAKING NEWS: The D.C. Council just voted to fund and implement the open primaries portion of Initiative 83. That means that in 2028, close to 100,000 independent voters will be able to choose whether to vote in the primaries. Independents should have been allowed to participate in this year's historic primary election. Semi-Open Primaries were APPROVED by the voters with Initiative 83 in 2024, so why has the Council still neglected to fully fund it?NOW IS THE TIMEEmail your Councilmember (and At-Larges) to include funding for Semi-Open Primaries in NEXT TUESDAY'S Budget Meeting. June 23rd is the LAST OPPORTUNITY this year to fund this portion of the initiative, with an incredibly small price tag ($1M in a $20B budget).
