‘Namumula’

Today, @kaputsystemsinc released their first compilation dubbed ‘The Glimmer That Grinds Teeth To Powder’. It features local and international artists/producers who have touched and/or helped mold Kaput’s universe in a myriad of ways through their respective practice.

For my entry, I pulled inspiration from my own personal experience playing for Kaput 8; where from the raised booth I witnessed the striking image of an ocean of dancing bodies engulfed in red, hot passion. Limbs flailing, skin shining, faces blushing. It’s a moment I remember dearly.

The entire compilation is available for purchase and download through Kaput’s bandcamp profile.

Thank you @derektumala for inviting me to be part of such an inspiring line-up of artists, and for @likeanimalsmusic for taking my track through the finish line through his mastering work.

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗶𝗿𝗱: 𝗛𝗠𝗔𝘃.𝟭𝟭
On Saturday, November 14, we’ll be celebrating the second anniversary of 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼.

To commemorate the occasion, we’re humbled to welcome South Korean DJ Kugel 「@kugel____」 to Manila for her Philippine debut. For those unfamiliar, Kugel is a resident of Dj Nobu’s »Future Terror« party series and curator of »Weird Circle.«

This is a booking we’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. What first drew us to Kugel’s work was her ability to move beyond the expectations of genre—weaving together strange and disparate sounds and transposing them into atypical narratives on the dancefloor.

In fact, we deeply resonate with the spirit of »Weird Circle«, the bi-monthly series she curates in Seoul. Built around an openness to »weird and good sounds,« the series brings together artists and ideas that might otherwise exist outside of the usual club framework.¹ It’s a sensibility that feels closely aligned with our own curiosities at 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼.

That being said, we’re excited to finally bring Kugel to Manila and, for the last 𝗛𝗠𝗔 of the year, venture a little further into stranger and more psychedelic territories.

Joining Kugel in the »Main Room« are residents Duality and Shaoxing, guiding the room into ritualistic, techno-adjacent and abstract-leaning journeys. In the »Elbow Room«, detalye and D Waviee will explore more raw and foundational cuts that you’ve come to expect from this imprint.

Join us on 𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗱𝗼 ❶❶•❶❹ at »Apotheka«, from 21:00→04:00.

Pre-sale tickets »PHP650« are now available via the Helixpay link in our bio.

𝗛𝗠𝗔𝘃.𝟭𝟭 on November 14 marks two years of the 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 imprint and our main club night series.

To commemorate the anniversary, we’re happy to tease that we’ll be bookending the year with another guest from »South Korea« — an artist who has been on our radar for quite some time. ;)

We still have a little over a month to go, but rest assured that pre-sale tickets will be available soon. For now, here are a few community photographs from 𝗛𝗠𝗔𝘃.𝟵 with Andy Martin 「@4ndym4rtin」.

TWO DAYS TO GO 🐇

Down the Rabbit Hole: An Apotheka-curated Night happens this Thursday (Sep. 10).

The whole night, top to bottom, designed by the Apotheka team. With a lineup built at the intersection of music and movement, and sounds that get deeper and heavier as the night goes on.

Meet the selectors pulling you in. Swipe through to get to know them.

Rvck is a Laguna-born, Manila-based selector and bass producer exploring the deeper ends of dub, garage, jungle, and left-field bass. His sets move through weighty low-end, broken rhythms, swung grooves, and atmospheric textures, blurring the line between deep listening and club pressure.

Now active in Manila’s club circuit, Rvck brings a bass-driven sound shaped by both local underground scenes and UK-rooted club music. Alongside DJing, he develops his own production-driven sound through releases and mixes.

He is part of Hard.System, a Philippine left-field bass collective pushing forward-thinking sounds within the local underground scene.

J-Nice’s sets are shaped by the records she’s picked up over time, reflecting her own journey of music discovery. You might’ve seen her playing across a range of events and sounds, making it difficult to pin down exactly what her genre is—but that’s a reflection of her love for music in all its forms. From old finds to new obsessions, every set pulls from what’s been living in her crates, moving between house, percussive club cuts, and bass-heavy sounds, all guided by curiosity and a dancefloor-first approach.

More recently, she founded FROOTWERK, a queer-led collective exploring sounds rooted in Ghetto Tech, Footwork, Juke, and other forms of global club music. The collective was created to support and champion up-and-coming artists, with a particular focus on FLINTA and queer talent, while also diversifying its own taste and creative practice. At its core, it’s about building safer in-person spaces for discovery, connection, and self-liberation.

EDGY is an emerging Manila-based DJ and creative organizer whose work sits at the intersection of electronic music and queer nightlife. Dynamic and narrative are emphasized in her sets traversing from techno, house, trance, by @ddetalyee

𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟮
𝗛𝗠𝗔𝘃.𝟵 welcomed one of our biggest international guests to date. Andy Martin 「@4ndym4rtin」 had long been one of the team’s »unicorn« bookings — a junction point for many of our shared fascinations within dance music.

What we experienced that night was a masterclass in forward-thinking sound design, backed by deep and expansive crates of music. Hearing »The Bells« for the first time in the history of the club night is something we won’t easily forget. :))

Our deepest thanks to Apotheka, and to everyone who continues to support what we’re building — for helping turn what was once a faint idea into something that’s now part of 𝗛𝗠𝗔’s history.

As 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 navigates its third year, we’re increasingly reminded that the imprint cannot be defined solely by its international guests. What resonates is the integrity and intention we bring to every iteration, from the music we program to the people that surround us.

With that in mind, we’re excited to announce 𝗛𝗠𝗔𝘃.𝟭𝟬, happening on August 15. To commemorate ten editions of the series, we’re returning to our roots with our first all-local lineup since 𝗛𝗠𝗔𝘃.𝟭.

We hope to see you for the next one.

Tickets are available through the link in our bio. ;)

𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁, 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗛𝗠𝗔𝘃.𝟭𝟬
21:00 → 04:00

What happens when different generations of Manila’s electronic music scene come together?

On August 15th, Heavy Mental Audio returns to Apotheka with an intergenerational line up inspired by the past, present and future.

Across two rooms, eight DJs explore mind-altering techno alongside excursions into bass, jungle, and other genre-expansive forms.

In the main room, we’re honored to welcome the likes of Toti Dalmacion, whose work through the seminal Consortium parties helped define Manila’s electronic music history.

Joining him is Vader, founder and music director of legendary XX:XX club, and the beloved HMA residents.

In the Elbow Room we proudly invite Rvck, J-Nice, and Soft as Silk. All of whom push the boundaries of what’s heard locally through their distinct perspective and cutting-edge taste.

Don’t miss the celebration of local legacy and emerging talent for the 10th iteration of the HMA club night.

See you in the fog.

𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁, 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: 𝗛𝗠𝗔𝘃.𝟭𝟬
Saturday, August 15, marks the 10th ever iteration of 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼’s main club night series spanning over 2 years.

For 𝗛𝗠𝗔𝘃.𝟭𝟬, we’ve made the conscious decision to present an entirely local lineup — the first time we’ve done so since 𝗛𝗠𝗔𝘃.𝟭 in September 2024. In many ways, this edition is an attempt to articulate the values that continue to shape the imprint: (1) honoring the pioneering figures who laid the groundwork for Philippine techno, while (2) celebrating a new generation of artists pushing its language forward.

In the »Main Room«, we’re honored to welcome Toti Dalmacion, whose work through the seminal »Consortium« parties helped define Manila’s electronic music history. Joining him is Vader, founder and music director of the legendary »XX:XX«, »Black Market«, and »B-side«. Their shared dedication to the craft of DJing and record collecting continues to influence both the wider Manila underground and the direction of 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 itself.

Meanwhile, the »Elbow Room« looks toward the future. Rvck, J-nice, and Soft as Silk represent a generation of DJs and producers whose skill, selection, and dedication continue to impress us. Each approach offering a distinct perspective that we’re excited to hear within the context of 𝗛𝗠𝗔.

Join us in a few weeks’ time on 𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗱𝗼•❽•❶❺ at »Apotheka«, from 21:00 → 04:00. Pre-sale tickets »PHP 500« are now available via the Helixpay link in our bio.

Playing b2b all-night with my brother @duality__dj at @kinki.love__ last July 18 was such a deeply fulfilling experience for me.

The first time I ever learned how to use CDJs was actually thanks to Sean, during a bring-your-own-usb workshop held by the Transit crew back in 2022. Since then, I’ve always considered him an indirect mentor of sorts. He never forced any techniques, ideals, or whatever on me; I just had a lot of respect for his approach to music and community and enjoyed our many discussions on it. I could always feel his support and respect throughout the years and not once did I ever feel like I had to drastically change my approach to fit his own.

From the first ambient drone during opening, up until the lights turned on to Gabriel, I could still feel that same support and respect. I’m already looking forward to the next. Thank you, Sean! With love, respect, and admiration.

Biggest thanks to everyone behind @kinki.love__ as well for building the perfect space to hold such meaningful nights like this. Congrats on the grand opening weekend. Ya’ll my 2nd home in Poblacion fr. 🩶 by @ddetalyee
