It was truly an honor.

Chicago is where our story began, where D’Juan and I originated. Now the Barack Obama Presidential Library sits right in the heart of Hyde Park, The Obamas own neighborhood, with Grayson born just up the street at the University of Chicago. These were our stomping grounds, our humble beginnings.

President Obama led with a grace and character I still hold onto. It wasn’t until after we left that it really hit me, just how many local artists and historians poured into this center, showcasing their art, their passion, and in some cases, fulfilling lifelong dreams. So much of its beauty comes from Black stories and Black art finally being celebrated like this.

My son Porter, a fifth grader at Concord Church, is participating in the National Lemonade Day COMPETITION tomorrow, May 4! He and his church group created Cute Juice, they’re selling lemonade for $7. We are accepting donations via the QR code below for Zelle and Cash App starting now through 1 PM tomorrow, so friends and family who can’t attend can still support him. My girl!

Being in Gary has always been such a safe space for me and at many different points in my life. Moving away 2.5 years ago was incredibly hard because of the close proximity to my Grandma. Coming home and knowing that you’re no longer here is crazy!!! It truly breaks my heart. And You will be missed. I want to thank everyone for the calls, the cookies and flowers, even the text messages. Thank you @D’Juan Wilcher you and your family are truly amazing people. Thank you for showing up for me. I said at the end of last year, this would be a year of gratitude. I’m so grateful for my friendships and to have had Barbra Bridges as my grandma and my girl!
