My favorite part of what I do is getting to experience combat sports at the highest level. Anyone can sit behind a screen and talk about the game, but id feel like such a pussy not getting boots on the ground and actually feeling the different levels of skill. It makes you appreciate it so much more.

Wrestling reminds me a lot of BJJ in the sense that when you’re going with someone who’s better than you, there isn’t a way you’re catching them. You’re not scoring a point. You’re just a body. You feel like a baby.

That’s what makes it so different from fighting. In MMA, the better fighter loses all the time. But the better wrestler always wins.

It’s what makes wrestling so pure and ironically, the reason it’ll never be mainstream. #UFC #MMA #Wrestling #BJJ by @ddownes08

First day back to training for @ddownes08 after wrapping up his High School Career by becoming a 3X New York State Champion last week. I started working with Devin when he was in the 8th Grade, and it has been a pleasure to watch him excel over the years. Devin is everything a coach can possibly look for in an Athlete and I am very excited to watch him compete at the next level for the @alextclemsen at The University of Maryland next season. taken in Vanguard Academy Jiu Jitsu by @ddownes08

If you told 8th grade me that’d I’d be in this position after 5 seasons of high school wrestling I’d tell you that you were crazy. Forever grateful to my parents, family, coaches, teammates, and friends. Special thanks to @kycerm and @vougarhonorswrestling. Thank you to Coach Nuzzi, Coach Simeone, Coach May, and Coach Fig for believing in me this year. Couldn’t have done this without any of you guys. Thank you high school wrestling, I’ll miss you. More to come 🐢…
