1. You will need your mom. Becoming a mom can make you realize just how much you still need your own mom. Let yourself reach for her, ask for help, and be cared for, too. 2. There is no prize for doing motherhood the hardest way. Accept the help. Use the formula. Take the nap. Let somebody wash the bottles. You don’t have to prove anything. 3. Give yourself grace—you’re learning too. Your baby is brand new to this world, but you’re brand new to being their mom. You’re both figuring this out together. 4. Everything is a phase. The hard nights can feel endless, but babies change SO fast. The moment you think you’ve figured something out, they’re already onto something new. Take it one day at a time. 5. Take the pictures—with yourself in them. Not just the cute baby pictures. Take the tired pictures. The no-makeup pictures. The 3 AM pictures. The ones where you don’t quite feel like yourself yet. going in today to start the process of having a baby and brother - this shit is lowkey terrifying but in the best way possible cause I finally get to meet my little human! like i don’t know how to describe the realization that by the weekend I’ll have a son and person to take care of for the rest of my lifetime. super heavy stuff, it makes me wonder even more so how my parents did it, how anyone does it! it’s really cool to unlock different parts of the human experience and different parts of stores - like who knew the baby section in Walmart was so unorganized - not me until 2.5 months ago.
