What can we learn from bike messenger alleycats? Playground. Now on YouTube.

Playground looks at how alleycats push back against enclosed city space, and change the ideas of dominance and exploitation. Ultimately: how we truly reclaim the streets as our own. Fun. Friction. Conflict. They’re the ultimate emancipation for the bike messenger who spends their life so intimately tied to the enclosed streets of the city. Rejecting the ideas of enclosure. Creating the ultimate playground.

Playground is made together with Norman Duncan @through_everything_messengers, a PhD researcher and bike messenger focusing on reclaiming the “right to the city” through urban organisation in both work and leisure, with a focus on alleycats.

Went on a bike trip up a hill, round a corner, and ended up here in a bubble of silence with @_._anna_conda_._. Picked our way through Passo dell Uomo slowly; partly because of the underbiking, partly because we had stopped to sit on a rock in the sun for a while and have the most scenic coffee I’ve ever had, and partly because we had to stop excitedly every 500 metres to shout about how ridiculous the scenery was. taken in Passo Dell'uomo by @de.tour

Cycled out to the woods for my birthday yesterday to do a forest meditation, lie around listening to synthy music, and do a gentle little scavenger hunt with cute prompts. We also got to experience Very Impressive Rain Storm, making a tarp den and having structural water management joy, found a perfect clearing, sourced one quite sour apple from a tree, found a show-off orange leaf, and discovered my new camping stove has no concept of anything beyond VERY VERY ON FIRE.

When I was a kid, a lot of the photos of me being happy have me pointing my chin to the sky in some demonstration of joy. I still have to remember not to do that. Everyone else did it instead. I like nature-appreciation-bike-picnic. taken in Berlin, Germany by @de.tour

Got hired by @velocrushzurich as their Intern (unpaid) this weekend for @bespoked.cc to provide the skills of admiring bikes and small bags, holding things when people have their hands full, making breakfast once, and providing medical advice for a bruise. Here are some things we liked.

I have been thinking about championships this year. It’s been 10 years since I stumbled into my first messenger championships in Copenhagen and Paris, feeling perhaps the most shy I’ve ever felt.

I helped organise the European Messenger Championship @ecmc2026 this year in Berlin along with a team of around 15 people. And in the run-up, somewhere between schlepping boxes, thinking about everything that’s changed in the last 10 years, riding around feeling magic thinking about everyone soon to descend onto Berlin, there was also time for a happy cry in the kitchen. The championship itself is a blur of busyness to the point I can barely remember half the faces I saw, but going to other championships since it has had a certain extra sweetness.

I find myself looking at old championship photos and realising that I now know more faces in the photos than when I took them. How all these little trips have helped pad out and colour in all the details of these old photos.

The way I experience community and feel friendship has changed, my understanding of the effort that we put into things, the value of building things, my understanding of love, and how I hold people a little tighter in my heart when we say see you soon. It cannot all come from championships but it has definitely been changed by them. What an honour. taken in Berlin, Germany by @de.tour

Everything we needed was brought on bikes, including powersations, projector, screen etc.
Shoutout to those who brought camping chairs! Cargobikes are essential when you plan a screening outdoors, big thanks to @fanzybikes for teaming up to make this happen! 🫶

Together with @fanzybikes , we are really excited to host another Cinema Night.

This time we are screening TECHNICAL TERRAIN by Claire Tayler.
Five short documentary films about bike messengers’ stories, communities, and challenges in different cities, told through the perspectives of WTNB+ riders.

Bring something to sit on, snacks, drinks your bike, and lights. We will screen the films outdoors at a special location.

Meet us at Fanzy Bikes 15.08.26 at 8 PM. We will ride together to the location.

Took some photos of Julia sewing @juicybikestuff Omnium webbing. She started doing this just over a year and a half ago, which is about how long I’ve sat on these photos for.

It’s been super nice in the time in between to see her present @mini_bike_fest, do a collab presentation with @omnium, see her webbing pop up @cmwc2025sydney on the winning bike, appear as prizes @ecmc2026, and make @johnprolly a custom webbing for his @drustcycles cargobike and go on display @bespoked.cc. 💅💖 taken in Berlin, Germany by @de.tour
