So we guess the cats out of the bag?
It was a pleasure to host legendary rock overlords @dinosaurjr this Saturday for a quick pre-production rehearsal, amp testing and some guitar tweaks ahead of their show at Albert Hall
Big thanks to Alleš (TM), Jake (Guitar Tech) and Noel (FOH) for being a killer crew to work with.
Hearing J, Lou and Murph put the big green rug through its paces was a special experience and a super warm friendly and funny group of guys. An honour.
If you’d like to book a similar experience at DBS, no matter what budget, drop us a DM to start building your session to any desired spec. We can provide technical assistance with all instruments, and source any equipment you need to get ready for your show or your tour.

Shooting some guitar tones out as a bit of pre-production with @domstrett for @thepressgangmcr
Here he’s used his tele playing some pseudo “12 String” and splitting some chords over a couple of octaves using a capo, and then layering the darker Lennon-esque Casino and our trusty old Tele custom with some slide. All this went through the wall to a @danwhitelockjones custom combo amp with a low wattage. Cranked this to the point of break-up and captured with a large diaphragm condenser. All killer. Can’t wait to start working on the new tunes.
Retro! #manchester #recordingstudio #musicproduction #guitarrecording #telecaster taken in Dead Basic Studios by @deadbasicstudios

Many thanks and a massive shiddly-woi to @bennichol1990 for lending me his @akai_pro MPC SAMPLE - Here’s a beat I made while I was figuring out how it worked.

JEMIJOG X @sacredlounge.manchester
I had a meeting with some Hare Krishna’s today about performing and recording some #kirtan with them.

While I was showing off some of the features of the studio, one of the lads asked me
”could you make a #boombap style beat?”

The drums, keys and bass were done in about 10 mins. Luca spat his bars first time, one take, no warm up or prep, straight of the top. Channeling that #krishnaconsciousness or sumat. Devarsi then did a little #Mridanga pattern, one take. Bosh.

I love it when things just flow naturally, when the energy is right in the room and things just fall into place and slot together like two hands.

Stay tuned for more of these impromptu, improvised studio workouts. Drop a comment if you’d like to get involved and feature on The Dead Basic Lab Sessions.. or what ever we decide to call it.

The script is, come to the studio, give me a prompt or stimulus. I’ll make a custom instrumental for you on the spot to do your thing over with the aim to have a finished product plus a video by the end of the session.

We’ve realised something over the last year:
Some of the best work we’ve been doing at Dead Basic hasn’t happened by trying to cram an entire record into one massive studio day.
It’s happened by giving the songs some breathing room.
So we’re formalising the way we’ve already been working with a lot of our bands and artists.
🎚️ 4-week production project
🎵 2 songs
🎤 Production, recording, vocals, editing & mixing
🎥 2 natural live performance videos
📁 Full stems + session files
📱 BTS footage + raw content
🔊 Release-ready masters
The process is simple:
WEEK 1 — develop the songs, record live demos and work out the production.
WEEK 2 — track the foundations and build the productions.
WEEK 3 — vocals, overdubs, edits and final production.
WEEK 4 — mix, refine and deliver.
The advantage is having time between sessions to actually listen to what you’ve made.
Go home. Live with it. Make notes. Come back. Make it better.
Projects start from £599, with the final price based on what your songs actually need.
If you’ve got two songs you’re ready to take seriously, send us the demos.
No hard sell. We’ll have a listen and tell you what we’d recommend.
