Here's a look at all of the themes for the July 2026 Vinyl Challenge!

This month has a new little twist: some days are marked "Pick one." For those themes, you'll choose a side when you create your post: happy record or sad record, new to you or old favorite, loud record or quiet record, etc.

After you post, you'll be able to see how the community split on that theme and browse entries from each side.

As a reminder: you can join the challenge anytime, but each daily theme is only open for that day, so you can't post for previous days. If you miss one, no worries, just pick back up with the current theme!

June's challenge was really great, and it was such a fun way to discover new music and connect with other people through the records in their collections. Let's keep it going!

The Following feed on Dead Format will always show you all posts, in order, from the people you follow (go figure), so you can keep up with what they're sharing: what's on their turntable, new pickups, collection updates, daily challenge entries, record store finds, and more. The first week of the June Vinyl Challenge (as well as the first week of the release of the all-new app update that even made any of this possible) is in the books!

It's been really special watching this community come together. I've included some key numbers from just the challenge posts this past week, along with some of the most-liked and most-commented-on pictures, but it goes so much further than what you see here.

So many new people have jumped in, posted records, shared stories, left comments, followed each other, and helped bring back the same community feeling Dead Format had nearly 20 years ago when this place first launched.

This has already been such a positive, fun, and encouraging place to share records, and it really feels like we're building something special again. Huge thank you to everyone who's helped make it feel that way. If you haven't jumped in yet, come hang out! We'd love to have you.

Yesterday's challenge featured a pretty wild assortment of cover art and packaging! It's been very cool to hear stories about how collectors got drawn to various records for reasons beyond the music alone.

June Vinyl Challenge, day 4! "Blue colored vinyl" - quite a few solid blue records in yesterday's submissions, but a lot of fun swirls, splatters, and other mixes. Today's theme is "An album from a local artist or label", so if you've got anything in your collection with local ties, get your entry in today!

The June Vinyl Challenge continues with day 3 "A record you bought at a concert" and it was pretty great to see that, despite how awful it can be to hang on to a record throughout a show, a lot of you persevered and came home with something awesome! Today's theme is "Blue colored vinyl" so I'm sure we all know what tomorrow's post will look like...

This month's challenge is off to an amazing start! Yesterday we passed 200 entries for the "An album with no skips" theme - and it's been a lot of fun seeing everyone's choice for an album they can listen to all the way through.

Today's theme is "A record you bought at a concert" and we're seeing a ton of great stories about meeting bands, seeing in a lifetime performances, and of course getting copies of some super special vinyl.

WOW! Yesterday was amazing and beyond anything I anticipated. Huge thank you to everyone who signed up, posted pictures, liked and commented, followed other users, helped spread the word on social media, submitted app feedback…

It was a wild first day, as you can see by this grid of challenge submissions! It's been incredible to see people jump right in to share their records and write stories about them while making new connections with other collectors.

I'm really excited about the way this community is shaping up and I hope you are too. Daily signups are breaking records, day 2 challenge submissions are going strong, and there's so much more to come. LET’S GO!
