We're absolutely heartbroken to hear the news of Andy Williams’s passing. Everytime I Die were, and are, a massive influence on us and our sound, and Andy was someone you could really gravitate towards. Whether it was watching him riff or making jokes, there was something truly special about him.
Thank you, for everything. You inspired us, you made us laugh and honestly lit a fire under us to get us going. You will be missed X by @deadretinas

Dead Retinas - Gloom EP

Dropping their EP mid August ’27 we have Dead Retinas from the fair city of Manchester.

In general I’m obsessed with “old” music when it comes to punk, hardcore, metal, extreme metal and so on. There’s so much stuff coming out daily these days its hard to keep up with - and a lot of it sounds cookie cutter to me in terms of style and production. I’m just getting old?

Anyway I’m just trying to link to the fact that I find Dead Retinas kinda fresh, original and engaging.

They’re a top band - it sounds like they’ve spent some time perfecting the passages and arrangements of each song. Plus they’re locked in with the universal groove; with loads of pocket, making it all slick and infectious. The heaviest parts feel creative and dare I say progressive, not relying on generic chugs, the more melodic and delicate moments are intertwined seemingly without effort making for a nice mix of styles and influences in their sound.

Riffs are all tasteful, original bangers with no exception, the bass tone is up there with Chris Squire (told you I like old music) the drummer slays and between them they create unique and powerful songs that ebb and flow, ride out, reach crescendo or just bite your head off.

That’s just leaving some comment on the vocals - which is the icing on the cake. The lyrics are brilliant; as well crafted as the music. It’s refreshing to see personal and wider topics approached with intelligence and honesty. Some of the subject matter connects with me on a personal level and the rest certainly gave me something to think about. They capture the poetry and pace of the city and a full throttle delivery and precise execution on the recording carries the whole thing home.

So ultimately I think this band is sick lol. They mix elements of modern metal, punk / alternative adjacent and UK hardcore into an emotive hard edged ball of energy. They could be a logical - heavier progression from a band like UNDERSTAND (Southend, 90’s) who had some similar qualities.

The EP is out now at all the usual places, the band is gigging and they're well worthy of your time.

BLINK. 🌎

This song came about when the news broke that 13km of Amazon rainforest had been cleared to build a road… to a city hosting the COP climate conference. The irony is impossible to ignore

We’ve only got one Earth. We don’t deserve it.

Blink is released this Saturday as part of our new EP GLOOM.

‘CANTILEVER’ explores a stark awakening upon discovering a once-trusted support network within a community, has in fact been gaslighting the whole time. These kind of revelations often mirror the feelings of suddenly trying to hold all your emotional weight, after relying for so long on others to share and support these burdens.
