What feels like a special restaurant meal to me is someone else’s Thursday night dinner. 🤍 Every culture has its own everyday recipes, and I love discovering that they’re often made with simple, accessible ingredients and a few techniques passed down through generations.

Today’s menu:

🇪🇬 Egyptian Kofta
• 1 lb ground lamb
• 1 lb ground beef
• Avocado oil
• 1 medium onion, finely grated
• Gourmet Garden Thai seasoning paste
• ½ cup finely chopped parsley
• Garlic cloves
• Kosher salt
• White pepper
• Ground cumin
• Ground coriander
• Smoked paprika
• Ground cinnamon
• Lemon pepper seasoning
• Cayenne pepper (optional)

🥙 Homemade Pita Bread
• 1 cup warm water
• 4 tsp sugar (divided)
• 2 tsp yeast (1 packet)
• 2 tsp salt
• 1 small scoop Greek yogurt
• 2½–3 cups all-purpose flour
• Avocado oil

Postpartum, marriage, and motherhood have a way of putting self-care and presentation quietly on the back burner. I’ve really had to get comfortable in this postpartum season. Some days it’s just survival mode: exclusively breastfeeding, cooking, cleaning, repeating… and honestly, some days I don’t even feel like myself. Some days I don’t like my body, and I look in the mirror thinking my face looks too full, too different, too everything. And honestly, most days I’d rather be in comfy clothes doing absolutely nothing and giving myself grace to just exist.

But today I decided to slow down and pick it back up a little. Nothing over the top, just a reset and showing up for myself in the middle of real life. And my husband was genuinely grateful and a little surprised, because he knows what these days really look like behind the scenes. And he’s constantly reminding me that I’m still beautiful, that I literally just gave birth, and that I shouldn’t be so hard on myself.

Between breastfeeding on demand, caring for the home, and pouring into everyone else, it can be easy to forget myself. But I’m learning that I still matter in the middle of all of it too. 🤍 by @deajawashington

My baby, my BIG PAPA! 🥰 I have seen you kill it on stage. I’ve seen you have rooms full of people laughing from wall to wall. I’ve seen you build a platform, encourage others, and walk in your purpose. But the greatest thing I have ever seen you do is be a father.

One of the best decisions I’ve ever made in this life was making you my husband. Right behind that was making you Malachi’s father. I love the way you love all fifty-eleven of these children. 😂 The patience you show, the lessons you teach, the way you make each one feel seen and valued—it’s truly special. Looking at the way you father them, it’s easy to see why God trusted you with so many. Florence, Tatum, Carter, Daniel, Elijah, and Malachi are incredibly blessed to call you Dad.

I was so happy to make this Father’s Day special for you because you deserve to be celebrated. And getting to watch you on stage today made me so proud. Seeing you do what you love, watching people laugh, and witnessing the gift God has given you in action was such a beautiful reminder of the incredible man you are—not just as a comedian, but as a husband, father, and leader.

Happy First Father’s Day from me and Malachi. We love you more than words could ever express. 😘

And Happy Father’s Day to all the real fathers reading this, especially the fathers and father figures who have poured into my life and the lives of my children. You are appreciated more than you know. I pray you felt loved, celebrated, and seen today. Fatherhood is one of the most challenging and important callings a man can accept, and the sacrifices you make often happen quietly behind the scenes. OMG! 🥹 Eight years ago today, you made me a mommy, and what a gift that has been. 8 years of loud laughs, happy tears , and sweet hugs and kisses! 8 years of praising God for you. From the moment I first held you in my arms, my heart has belonged to you in a way I never knew was possible.

Tatum, watching you grow has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Every year, you amaze me more and more. You are incredibly smart, creative, talented, funny, thoughtful, and kind. The way your mind works, the way you care about others, and the way you light up every room you walk into make you truly one of a kind. I find myself thanking God for you constantly. Thanking Him for your sweet heart, your big personality, your endless curiosity, your determination.

It feels like just yesterday I was holding my tiny baby boy, and now you’re growing into such an amazing young man. I am so proud to be your mommy and so grateful that God chose me to be yours. 2 bumps, 2 labors, 2 sweet blessings from my Father in Heaven. 💙🩵 Being your mommy is the greatest gift God has ever entrusted me with. Through every kick, every cry, every laugh, every lesson, and every moment in between, you both have changed my life in the most beautiful way.

Thank you, my sweet boys, for giving me a love so deep it constantly points me back to God’s goodness. I pray you always know how deeply loved, covered, and chosen you are.

And to my bonus babies — thank you for allowing me to love you, guide you, pray for you, and share life with you too. Bonus mama to some, forever love to all. 🤍

To my son, Malachi,

I still remember the moment I saw those two little lines. After experiencing a pregnancy loss earlier that same year, it was instant joy, and then just as quickly, worry.

Your dad and I were so happy to know you were coming, but I wondered if I was ready. How do I bring another child into this world when there’s still so much I need to get in order?

And then came the days… This pregnancy stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. Sick almost the entire time, my body weak, my mobility limited, and I didn’t always feel like myself. And life didn’t slow down for me— it kept going.

But the Lord is faithful, and He met me in all of it.

In every worry, He provided more than enough. In my sickness and weakness, He sustained me and brought healing. In the crushing and pressing, I learned to surrender. And in that surrender, He gave me joy, a fresh anointing, and a deeper understanding of purpose.

The morning you were born, God Himself ushered me into labor and stayed with me through every moment. And when it was all over, all I could do was thank Jesus.

Because you are more than just our baby, Malachi, you are a reflection of what God did in me and a reflection of what God sent through me— a message and a promise fulfilled. 💚 by @deajawashington

To my husband,

You’ve given me a love that feels safe. Safe enough to grow, to trust, to surrender… and even to bring life into this world. That’s not something I take lightly. There’s a vulnerability in motherhood, a risk in it— and yet, your love became the place where my fear couldn’t stay.

I’m so grateful that we are co-heirs together in the grace of life. Not just husband and wife, but partners— chosen to build, to nurture, and to steward what God has placed in our hands.

Now we hold a promise fulfilled.
A life sent with purpose.
A reminder that God speaks and God restores.

Last year, when you asked why I wanted to get married on my birthday — why I was willing to turn a day meant to celebrate me into a day that celebrates us — I told you the truth: marrying you on the day I was born felt like an honor. A part of my identity, a part of why God created me, was to be your wife. Sharing this day with you became a reflection of us becoming one, and a step deeper into the woman God made me to be.

There is so much of who you are that I’m not, yet you inspire me to grow, to stretch, and to become more. I pray every day to love you with the same grace and consistency you show me.

I love all of you — even in the moments when you can’t feel it, even when you doubt it. You are purposed to lead, to love, and to build, and I am grateful beyond words to be the woman standing by your side, witnessing it all. Even more, learning who I want to be for you — how to show up as the woman God created me to be, running alongside you and helping you in this race.

You said yes to loving me the way God loves me, and having a man who is willing to try to love me like that is one of the greatest blessings of my life.
