The Israeli national days always feel like an emotional roller coaster, moving from memory, grief, and reflection to pride, resilience, and celebration.

This year, marking the 2026 national days with the Jewish community of Greater Pittsburgh came with a deep sense of responsibility: to share the story, the emotions, and the reality that every Israeli carries during this time of year. At the same time, it was not easy to be away from home during days that feel so deeply personal.

There were many changes, adjustments, and moments of figuring things out along the way, but looking back, I truly feel that this year was a meaningful step forward from last year. I am proud of the experience we created together, and grateful for a community that showed up with open hearts, to remember, to learn, to feel, and to celebrate.

Thank you to everyone who was part of these meaningful days. 🇮🇱 taken in Pittsburgh, P.A. by @dean_aseef

Congratulation to Team PGH for all of their success and representing our Pittsburgh Jewish community at the 2026 Junior Mini Maccabi Games held this past weekend in Philadelphia.

Our 47 athletes were amongst 1,100 others from 18 delegations who gathered to experience the magic of Maccabi through sports competitions and connecting with other Jewish youth from around the region.

Team PGH took home 16 medals, including 9 gold. It was a day filled with energy, Jewish pride, sportsmanship and victories! by @dean_aseef

A year of shlichut.
They say one picture is worth a thousand words, so how about 365 of them?
They can tell the story of this crazy, unforgettable experience better than any words I could try to find.
Grateful for the privilege of living it, and let’s go, year two 🤩 taken in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by @dean_aseef

✨The Western Wall Replica: From Pittsburgh to Jerusalem✨

Lovingly created and painted by older adults in AgeWell at the JCC alongside children from our Early Childhood Development Center, this project beautifully united wisdom and wonder across generations in our Pittsburgh community.

During Games Week, it was displayed in the Hangtime space, where Maccabi athletes from around the world added their heartfelt notes. The journey concluded in Israel, as Dean, our community shaliach, placed those notes at the Kotel in Jerusalem. 💙🤍 taken in Kotel - Western Wall (כותל המערבי) by @dean_aseef

Have you ever felt like you’ve been preparing for something your whole life without knowing exactly what it was?

Well, I think that found mine!

Everything I’ve been through in my relatively short life has prepared me to help produce the JCC Maccabi Campus Games in Pittsburgh.

A once-in-a-generation event that I, together with many incredible people behind the scenes, made happen, bringing together 2,000 Jewish athletes from around the world in a city still healing from the tragic October 27 shooting And all this while launching a new pilot, the first-ever Campus Games in full partnership with the University of Pittsburgh and many other organizations across the city.

Unity and connection to Jewish and Israeli identity guided me in creating "Hang Time" - the social and cultural hub, because the JCC Maccabi Games are so much more than a sports competition. They’re one of the most impactful educational programs out there, combining the values of sports with Jewish values, all wrapped in connection, 6 fun!

Many moments from this past week will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Every athlete dreams of representing their country and making their loved ones proud, and I feel like this was my own small but proud signature of representation. 🇮🇱✡️

אני מרגיש שזו החותמת הייצוגית הקטנה שלי 🇮🇱✡️ taken in University of Pittsburgh by @dean_aseef
